For the past two to three months (since I was deployed) Mrs. GBC has been getting harrassing telephone calls from CitiBank attempting to intimidate her into making payments on debts that have long since been satisifed. She only told me about this tonight. I informed them if she gets another call the next calls I am going to make are going to be to Sen Shelby's office along with the State Attorney General.
AG, schmay-G. Get an airhorn and blow it in the phone every time they call.
CitiBank sucks. They have a high-end wealth management branch near me. They only have a few in the country. I went in their once about something. Miserable people who were rude unless you have a net worth of $50 million or more. The clowns cannot run a bank so why would ANYone want them managing your money.
Sounds like Obama’s boys have already taken over at CitiBank.
I too have been receiving calls in the past month, and live in AL also. I have never been past due on anything, and have had every debt satisfied. I did have ID theft about ten years ago, but it was caught quickly and handled. I have not answered these calls for 2 reasons. 1) Either they have the wrong number, or 2) It is a scam. If it continues, I will handle it the same way as you are. The way I look at it, if they are really looking for me, I would have received something in the mail.
The banks do seem to be desperate.
Bank of America notified me last week that my credit card limit was being cut in half. It doesn’t bother me because I pay my balance every month, but it seems they were trying to get rid of as much credit as they could while this “stress test” was being done by the Treasury Dept...and they still came up $34 billion short.
Lots of fraud out there. My wife was going to apply for what looked like a decent job that was posted on line. To apply she had to call when she did she was asked name, address, and other demoographic questions and then the “interviewer” said, “before I can send you the application I will need a credit card for the standard $69 fee.”
“Bank of America notified me last week that my credit card limit was being cut in half. “
Me to.
I called them and asked to have it raised again.
They did. I don’t need it, but want my credit scores as high as possible.
Having lines lowered can affect your credit scores negatively. Higher limits (more available credit that isn’t used) will boost credit scores.
Obviously just because you have the credit available doesn’t mean it should be used.
Capitol One sucks as well. BOA too.
Each possibility has different solutions.
My oldest had the same thing happen to her recently. My attorney had her send them a letter by certified mail which demanded they only contact her by mail and that they immediately furnish her complete details of the debt in question so that she can settle the issue. They stopped calling and she hasn’t heard boo from them since last August.
ACORN type collection tactics in play. Coming to a TARP bank near you soon.
Send a short letter to whatever address they give you (even if it’s the payment address. Two sentences only: First stating clearly that you don’t owe them any money, second stating that you will regard any further contact from them as illegal harassment and will take legal action against if any further contact occurs. Put “Attention: Legal Department” on the address on the outside of the envelope, and again on the letter itself. Use really large font, like 24 point (anything sent to a payment address gets opened by barely literate morons, and it’s tough to get their attention with anything that looks like an ordinary letter), and don’t provide any information whatsoever about yourself that they haven’t already given in their phone calls to you (as this may well be a scam that has no legitimate connection to Citibank) — not even your return address, unless they can tell you what it is over the phone.
I am very cautious and prudent with money. Thank goodness I pay off any credit cards and have not had any financial disasters.
I have a Staples office card and their interest rate baloons to 23.99%. I like Staples but these CC companies are pirates. Who is owned by CC companies? Joe Biden for one.
Not to worry.
Barama will beat them into submission.
Ok, then, you’ve definitely got something to work with. Maybe some sort of counter-suit for mental distress, etc. Even if you found some lawyer to take it for 50% of the proceeds, you’d still strike a blow for the little guys.
