To FR Admin: please allow embedding videos in responses
Vannity | 5.2.09

Posting embedded video on forums threads is common among internet discussion sites. I don't see why we can't have that on FR. It won't put any additional burden on the FR servers and will save posters and readers the inconvenience of leaving FR to visit an external site (Youtube, etc). Policy makers please consider this. Thanks.

As a Freeper for 10 years, I say “no.”

I say we get rid of this HTML and XML crap and go back to ASCII while we are at it. ~ƒµŠšŸ¡

Ditto that. I don’t like the “embedded videos” about “contributing to FR”, because they make wheel-scrolling down the page impossible (the cursor always stops on the video, when I want to scroll past). NO!!! There’s too much video on here already.

I don’t see where it’s necessary. You can link to one anyways. Don’t forget this forum was here long before any of the modern ones. It may not have all the bells and whistles that others do but it’s fine the way it is. IMHO.

“99% of the time I don’t watch video responses. They take too long and get in the way of other activities. You can split attention between reading a response and other activities — a video is too much hassle.”

I’m behind you all the way.

You are not going to believe this. When I awoke this a.m. I gave it serious debate whether I wanted to open FR because of all the cumbersome videos.

1. I don’t have time for rewinding and listening to the same tape many times which takes a zillion hours to play since the videos stop and start.

a. Life is too short.

b. I lack patience.

2. Written words are important to me. If I don’t understand a following sentence or paragraph, I go back and reread where I thought I may have misunderstood. At that point, it clears up again.

Thank you, freedumb2003, for bringing this up. It has been a thorn in my side.

Totally nonsense idea. The reason we “texties” hang around here is for the “text” ~ muawiyah

Simple solution to that: put an option in the account settings to turn it on or off. ~ perfect_rovian_storm

So....how is it going to work with those of us that still have dial up?....not our choice. ~ hoosiermama

As an active FReeper stuck on a crummy 56K dial up line, I agree with all of you. IMHO, prs has the best solution: let me control it.

FReepers on a slow connection running Firefox should consider the Flash Block plug in. Works great. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

<embed src> is a potential virus vector. Best to keep things simple here.

Yup. Me too.

Just right-click to open a video in another window and keep reading.

Well, the option that I suggested would give you the ability to turn it off, therefore saving you from the tyranny of Flash. There’s also a browser plugin for Firefox that will block it everywhere if you find it to be a problem everywhere.

embed, object iframe tags when used incorrectly or maliciously would probably cause more harm than good. Mods would have to work overtime to clean up the thread because someone used the wrong HTML.

However, I would be in favor of allowing inline style tags— enough of the ancient font/table markup.
