No mention if she was wearing her SEAT BELT.

(Land of the free - my ass!)

And the cops wonder why everyone hates them...

Cop haters look for every excuse.

BTW, what was her speed?

Yes and why didn’t they have a nice long search under her seats and in her trunk?

Bring on the K-9 unit!

I certainly don't nor do I know anybody who does. Exactly what did he do wrong? She violated traffic laws and he issued her a citation for it. He didn't cause her to miss the event, she did.

Lets think about a few items before deciding to label the cop as an evil SOB:

#1 - Why was she speeding in the first place? Is it the cop’s fault she didn’t manage her time better, leave earlier for the event, and then have to speed to try to catch up?

#2 - IF she is speeding and it causes her to have an accident, killing someone - maybe even herself - was the accident any less tragic because she was speeding?

#3 - Regardless of how we feel about police and ticketing drivers - the cop was doing his job. There really are VERY few “legitimate” excuses for speeding. So I guess we are to pick and choose which laws we follow, and which we tell our children and grandchildren - it is ok to break them - they are stupid laws anyway. But we will sit back and criticize Juan McCain, and many in the current administration who say that illegal aliens have committed no crime.

#4 - telling a cop you are late for some ceremony or funeral would be an easy one to fake - do we want the police to not only be the police, but the judge too?

And I say all of the above having been a recipient of a fraudulent ticket when I was much younger - that was cheaper to pay than to fight (still wish I had the cash at the time to fight it).

All I got out of this story is the woman didn’t seem to want to put any extra time into the funeral of her brother and thinks because there is a cop in the family she should get special treatment, which she did.

Not a lot of info in this article.

Why was she running late for such an important event?

With a relative in the police force, did she figure speeding didn’t matter since she could just have it cleared with a phone call?

Is her relative a superior to the office who ticketed her and to the one sent to the funeral home to apologize?

Does she have a history of getting away with things you and I couldn’t because of her connection?

Did she have a bad attitude and was it met in kind?

You can count me among the cop haters. I used to respect them when I used to liver in NYC as cops there truly had to deal with dangerous people to keep the rest of us safe. Ever since I have gone to the suburbs, the only time I see cops is when I spy them in ridiculously low speed limit zones, trying to raise money for the state and locales through speeding tickets. Of course now they have cameras doing a lot of the dirty work.

The ticket didn’t make her late. This is BS. They withdrew the valid speeding ticket after verifying her story. What’s the problem?
Maybe she will leave earlier the next time she must be somewhere. If it’s so important that she be at the ceremony why didn’t they wait? Or was she way late?

if it was such an important event, why didn’t she make enough time to arrive safely and not speed? Sounds like she was late already. I’ve gotten tickets and it only takes 5 min. Not enough time for her to miss the entire event.

And what if she didn’t have a cop friend or relative?

Cop haters have every reason to be what they are. The police provide more than ample fodder.

People who hate cops are never ever even halfway decent people. If someone tells me they hate cops I know to never let my kids around them because they are lowlifes.

Remember the gang banger lovers who hate cops cheer when they hear a police officer dies and cheer the shooter.
