FREEHOLD, N.J. A New Jersey man who abandoned his family's pet rabbit in the woods behind his home was barred from owning animals for five years.
Jong Park was also fined $500 after he pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty charge in Marlboro Township Municipal Court Wednesday.
Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Police Chief Victor Amato filed charges after Park admitted releasing the 1-year-old bunny named Hope because she had outgrown her cage.

Because cats, dogs, rabbits, alligators, etc are completely unable to live without human care/intervention.... right?

Just as we’re incapable of living without the Lord Obama reviewing our every move.

Everyone knows you can't leave rabbits in the woods! Bears do nasty things in there!
Sheesh!

Park admitted releasing the 1-year-old bunny named Hope. . . . Keep Hope Alive!

To: Still Thinking
Yep, but on a side note...
wouldn’t he have been guilty of animal cruelty if he’d NOT let the rabbit go because it had outgrown its cage?

Those animals who have been under the care of humans can’t or have to be trained to be on their own.
There are storie about Lions, bears, etc. with the same situation.

I guess he should have taken it to the friendly neighborhood butcher shop and had them kill it and turn it into a meal. Much more humanitarian.

Cats, dogs, and rabbits that are domesticated and released in an area with little for them to eat can’t. Alligators - I don’t think they’d have a problem except w/o water.
Starving to death is cruelty.

But in NJ you can abort a baby one second before birth by cutting open the baby's head and sucking out the brains (with the arms and legs moving) without anesthetics...and they think THAT is OK and perfectly legal...

He plead guilty, so I'm sure he'll comply with the fine and punishment, but I would have told them to go sit and spin had they tried to force that charge on me. While I think it's wrong to release rabbits into the wild (what, the world needs more pests?), the concept that it's cruelty to put a creature into the natural environment is insane.
What was he supposed to do? Take it to the pound where it'd be gassed in 48 hours? The rabbit not only lived for three weeks in the wild, it now has a new home.

I’m confused.
The same statist tree-huggers that tell us that we can’t abandon bunnies because they need humans to survive tell us that it’s okay to draw-and-quarter, burn alive with saline solutions, and decerebrate little humans before, during and even shortly after their birth.
Maybe it’s just me.

I’m mixed on this. I can see where setting an animal raised in captivity free could be cruelty if the animal is not capable of fending for itself. But I’m not sure that rabbits not have enough instinct to fend for themselves? And I’m not sure the average rabbit owner would know that they couldn’t, if they can’t.

Cheaper than having to support a pet for the next 5 years
...but...
It was probly pan size by now. Fry it up and have it for supper!

Rabbits have the best adaptable survival instincts I’ve ever seen. I call bull pucky on having to train it to live outside.
