Congress imposed a ban on what it called assault weapons in 1994, outlawing the sale and importation of 19 military-style weapons, copycat models with similar features, and high-capacity ammunition magazines. In a compromise with Republicans, the Democrats who controlled Congress agreed to let it expire in ten years unless it was renewed. By 2004, with Republicans in charge, support had evaporated.
.Question on president
Yes. We had the ban for 10 years. He should use up whatever political capital is necessary to reinstate the ban.
No. It was a mistake the first time around and it would be a mistake again. Existing gun laws are enough.
Maybe. Owning a gun is a right, but I'm conflicted as to whether or not average Americans should be able to own assault weapons.

the poll is not going their way...now if you go to their main site, you can’t find the poll ANYWHERE to take. ha!
Freepers destroyed another lib poll!!!Freepers rule!
It’s the only way to go...gotta infiltrate their little polls so they can’t claim and report the results they want...but it’s an old trick by the democratic underground and the likes...they’ve been doing it to Republican and Conservative online polls for years.
I learned awhile back not to argue , so I’ll just read and learn.
Just goes to show that sometimes big lies half a limited shelf life.
Yes, but the dims keep adding characteritics to make the scary “assault weapon”. Based on the features, my little .22 cal rifle is an assault weapon. But I have been a law abiding person for nearly 50 years. This is not about gun control, it’s about people control. There are millions of us who own firearms, but do not cause trouble. Well, maybe for a thug who breaks into our house. OH I FORGOT, these are dim constituancies.

Voted yes. Trying to tempt them into trying it.
Must be the NRA position, they love the unconstitutional gun laws we have so much.
But, sort of like voting for McCain again, I had to hold my nose & take that choice.
did you see the editorial in the Washington Times On-line about the scorpion & the frog??? it's a GOODIE!!! and it describes the (DAMNyankee-controlled) DIMocRATS party perfectly. = they just cannot fail to "shoot themselves in the foot" = it is their NATURE.

The problem with the ban is that almost anything can and will be classified as an *assault weapon*.
NOTE: The 2nd Amendment is SELF-incorporated to all government entities at every level. It is MORE ABSOLUTE than the 1st Amendment, or any of the others, because the wording forbids not only CONGRESS, but ANYONE from infringing on it. The 1st says Congress shall make no law.... The 2nd say shall NOT be infringed! Period! End of debate!
Hope all is well Stand, you sound as robust as ever..
Freeguards From the GREAT STATE OF MISSISSIPPI
Just check out the aftermath of the Australian and U.K. Gun Bans, crime way up with the cops arresting and imprisoning citizens for defending themselves... In other words a total mess.
“I would bet a dollar that every idiot voting yes has no clue what the legal definition of ‘assault rifle’ is.”
That’s a fact. They are clueless dolts who assume that what their handlers (i.e., MSM and pols) told them is factual.
An “assault rifle” is a weapon that is capable of both automatic fire (multiple rounds fired with a single pull of the trigger, similar to how a machine gun operates) and semi-automatic fire (one bullet fired for each pull of the trigger, with gas-powered reloading of the next cartridge), with the transition between the two accomplished by manually moving a switch.
“If someone wants to kill you with a cast iron pan or a sharp stick, they will find a way. Its not the weapon; its the will.”
EXACTLY!
You may know more than I do, I don't even own a gun (although I'm 100% behind the right to do so).
It’s also skewed in that it doesn’t provide an option for the politically-realistic gun-grabbers:
“No, we need to ban these guns, but it’s not yet the time for it, politically.”
DYs are LEFTISTS/SOCIALISTS/FASCISTS/ANTISEMITES and HATE southerners & think that we are "naturally INFERIOR" to northerners.
ONLY about 20% of northerners are DAMNyankees. the rest are just "folks".

Needed a 4th choice for a ban on guns held by federal government and politicians’ body guards. That, I could support.
