The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the agency is investigating NUTRO pet food, following a series of unexplained illnesses and deaths. Consumers have been complaining for more than two years that their pets have become ill after eating NUTRO products; many have recovered when they were switched to other foods. The company has steadfastly denied that its food is to blame.

Obscure name brand? Seems obvious it is Chinese based.

Seems like about 90% of our stuff is Chinese based. Even the drywall is poison.

We are slowly being poisoned by Chinese goods and allowing it to happen.

Nutro is one of the brands that is considered a “premium” brand...only sold in pet stores. Here’s a link to their site:

The company is claiming this is faulty info...and that there is no FDA investigation. Wonder if we could find a link on FDA site to verify whether or not there is an investigation.

nutro was recommended by many for its high nutritional value. i believe nutro is owned by an investment/buyout fund (correct me if i am wrong). to cut costs, nutro obviously replaced something, possibly from china.

Here's a complete list of recalls by the FDA since March ‘07

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/petfoodrecall/

I noticed the Blue Buffalo brand was recalled in ‘07 . Hopefully they worked out the kinks since our little dog eats that brand. (along with Solid Gold pet food)

I feed Canidae All Life Stages. About 15 months ago I opened a new 35 pound bag and neither of my dogs would eat food from the new bag. I called the pet store (also a premium food, not grocery store item) and they told me to scoop it all back in the bag and they would replace it. I did that and putting the bag in my car the bottom fell out. Those bags are usually rock solid and this one had not been treated any differently - brought it home and dumped it in a rubbermaid - put the bags with empty bags. It also was one that had a sticker on it that the bag had a "gift" inside - calendar in this case. There was no calendar inside.

They replaced the bag for me and the new bag had the calendar. I have always wondered if someone opened the bag from the bottom and added something sinister to it and then resealed the bag.

I still use Canidae with no problems since.

Company based in Tennessee, in business for 80 years.

How about we not ruin their reputation with vague allegations of which we have no evidence?

NUTRO, which has extensive international operations, was acquired in 2007 by Mars, Inc., the privately-held Virginia-based food products company.

Is this the same company that makes "Snickers"?

I see it contains soy and peas, heavy GMO crops, the evidence is already in on this, no wonder they are getting sick ...
