A pit bull mix named Chaos was shaking Nathaniel by the head. The dog belonged to a friend of Nathaniels parents who had left it chained to a runner in their back yard for about a month.Keeping a pit bull chained up for a month will just make it even more aggressive/unpredictable. Even the best of dogs can be made bad if they're habitually chained.

Wrap an M-80 in some lunch meat and then throw it into the dog’s mouth.

There is no reason to have a dog with that kind of jaw power and tenacity and especially no reason to have one around children. Sure most pits are fine enough but why risk it? How often do you hear of beagles or labs ripping somebody’s face off? Sadly those least able to care for such a potentially dangerous animal seem to be drawn to pits.

I’m sorry for the child and family. The animal should be put down, but this is not indicative of dogs in general and I believe dogs of all breeds can make fine pets.

Lying-misleading headline!
It was a “pit bull mix,” not a pit bull. Try to get your facts straight if you’re going to post hate articles.

Gee sounds a lot like:
Sure most gun owners are law abiding, but why risk it?

Care more about what it did, not what it is.

Either your comment was in jest or your skills at drawing analogies are stunning poor. You cannot compare a gun which is something the owner has complete control over with a dangerous animal which has a mind of its own.

Compare this to the Pit in Michigan who took offense at the guy beating his ex-wife. The dog just chased him off and didn’t bite. Too often Pits are involved in stories like the one detailed in this thread. That is why my household has been a home to Boxers, Poodles, and German Shepherds...

Poor kid. Prayers up for his healing.
Well, the anti-pit brigades will show up now to tell us it doesn't matter that the kid was improperly supervised, in the wrong yard and (according to his own parent) almost certainly doing something to the dog that should not be done to any strange dog.
It doesn't matter because the magical power of pit bull genes compelled the kid into the yard, dontcha know.
I'd also like to know where the information that he's a pit mix came from. Given the photo, I suspect there's less to that aspect of this story than the text would indicate.

You need reading lessons. I said “gun owners,” not guns.

I had a pit bull in my yard the other night (caught it there when I returned home from the store - it ran as soon as we pulled into the drive.) This dog, which will meet my .38 if I ever see it on my property again, was assumably trying to get ahold of one of my cats, did about $500 worth of damage to my husbands truck. It completely chewed the wiring to one of his headlights and chewed both sides of his bumper cover damaging it enough that it needs to be replaced.
I dont care if the dog is someones beloved pet or if they think it is the nicest dog in the world. It comes back onto my property it will be a dead dog. If I cant get close enough with my .38 the .30-06 will do nicely.

And 99% of the Freepers will fully support you protecting your family and property in this matter.
On the other hand, the way I read this story was that an UNSUPERVISED 4 year old wandered into the property of a person who had a dog chained up on THEIR property. Dog bites kid. If true, the parents have no one to blame but themselves for allowing their child to wander freely through the neighborhood. Hence the reason that the story states that no one will be charged.

And the thugs who turned their dog into a monster will decide their pit wasn’t badass enough, and move on to whatever other breed they think makes them ghetto-fab.

I would do the same, and I’m a pit owner myself.

When you are faced with a campaign of hate by someone like Chet99 focused solely against one breed of dog out of some warped hatred of pit bulls, the rebuke is very much deserved.
I'm so glad you keep informed before you add your comments.
