Just because his stepfather signed him in under that name while living in Indonesia does not mean it was his “given name”. You surely know that was not the name he was born with, correct?
Look, if you have a difference with someone’s policies then articulate that in an intelligent fashion. This silly “name” business is just that... silly. It’s juvenile. Everyone engaging in it should just grow up. You will convince no one that you’re right and he’s wrong on a particular policy by yelling “Hussein!”, “Soetero!”, so just quit it. It’s this kind of juvenile crap that is killing a conservative movement that used to have an intellectual base.
However, your naggy parent-tape just can't shut off so you feel the need to reprimand people who couldn't care less about your thoughts or opinions. Then, when your mediocre attempt at intellectual jousting falls short because you haven't familiarized yourself with even the most rudimentary facts of the subject in which your are debating, you resort to playing the condescending "you are acting juvenile" card. In short, if you don't agree with the content of a post, and if that post isn't obscene or disrespectful to you, just move on to the next post and resist your urge to play hall monitor.
Unfortunately, this is a symptom of the larger problem which is that FR USED to be a great place to chat and exchange ideas with "like-minded conservatives". Unfortunately, it has really downgraded in quality over the last few years to the point that it is NOT that anymore. Every juvenile or racist or offensive post I see here underscores that sad fact and sometimes I can't resist the urge to try to nudge the site back to what it used to be.
If it's just going to become one big playpen though, with people flinging poop around for giggles, then you're right. I should probably move on. It's not for me anymore.
This thread began as a discussion of Americans being identified by their native countries that has gradually eroded the concept of E Pluribus Unum as our founders envisaged and became a motto in the Great Seal. Mr. Obama as well, said so much in his Inaugural Address when he proclaimed “On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.”
It is therefore quite absurd, to refer to “Iranian-Americans” anymore than to refer to “Kenyan-Americans” There is a wealth of study on the corrosive effect of such hyphenated references.
The reference to B. Hussein O was and will remain an elliptical emphasis on a part of the president’s identity that was an “untouchable” during the campaign but to which he now makes convenient use to touch base with Islamofascists. This is neither a slur nor juvenile to use it in this manner. Rather, it brings up an issue of presidential double-speak.
That said, it is these kinds of discussions that make this site quite unique and illuminating and your contribution is not without insight into issues that inform distractive cluttter.
As she is US born, how is it she is dual citizen?
TEHRAN (AFP) Iran said on Monday that a freelance US journalist with Iranian nationality who is reportedly being detained in the Islamic republic has been gathering news “illegally.” Foreign ministry spokesman Hassan Ghashghavi did not confirm or deny whether Roxana Saberi, 31, was being detained by the Iranian authorities, but said her activities were “illegal”. US-based National Public Radio and Fox News, citing Saberi’s father, reported last week that the US-born journalist was arrested in late January on charges of buying alcohol, which is prohibited in the Islamic republic. “Ever since her credentials were revoked by Ershad, her activities...
Depending on the nationality, people born in the USA to foreigners could seek citizenship from the countries of their parents.
Oh, I know her Dad is Iranian, mom is Japanese. Did not know that US would honor dual citizenship. Does it depend on the parent’s status—i.e. if they seek US citizenship, kids cannot have dual?
