Just Heard B. Hussein O refer to jailed news-reporter Roxana Saberi as "Iranian-American" in a newscast hosted by Fox's Julia Banderas. So our new president think of American as hyphenated citizens.

As Ms. Saberi is a dual "citizen" it makes me wonder which passport she used to re-enter Iran. If she used her Iranian passport it would be much easier for that government to persecute her unjustly.

Of course to me this is just another reason that the USA should not allow dual "citizenship" under any circumstances.

Probably his first step in writing her off as Iranian and not an issue for America to get involved with.

Yes. As stated above she has dual citizenship. I’d say that, in those instances, there can be little question that hyphenation is reasonable.

Didn’t BHO say a while ago- about how we are not blue America, red America etc attempting to inform us that racial and color divisions aren’t there in his spectrum?

He’s gone from being disappointed to concerned...and I’m waiting to hear how “saddened” he will be by the “tragic” death that will undoubtedly find her before he does anything; that is if you count crying to show how “saddened” he is as an action.

Just Read Steelfish refer to Barack Obama as "B. Hussein O" in a FreeRepublic post. So our fellow Freeper thinks of Americans by only their middle names, with only first and last initials.

Odd. Do you also refer to "J. Sydney M" and "G. Walker B"? Just wondering.

Best bet is to refer to folks by the name(s) they prefer.

But if this is what BHO said:

“Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation – at least, not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.”

Why must POTUS refer to some Americans as “Iranian-Americans”? Would he refer to Somalians with dual citizenship as “Somalian-Americans”? or use the term “israeli-Americans”? I think not.

Multiple citizenships can be problematic.

Having multiple citizenships means that you are subject to all of the laws of all of the countries you are a citizen of. And when you are on their soil, they can make it stick, no matter which passport you used to enter the country.

Usually that doesn’t present itself as problematic: you live in one of your countries and abide by their laws, and for the most part what happens in your other country or countries doesn’t matter.

But, say, one of your countries passes something like Compulsory Military Service and you happen to be in the age group that it applies to, you need to think carefully before traveling there. If it becomes known that you are actually a citizen of that country your holiday can be interrupted and you can be forced to serve for whatever the period of service is.

A bigger problem would be if one of your countries goes to war with the other. Probably wise in that case to renounce citizenship with one of the two warring sides.

Several sources, including Powerline, which is pretty conservative, say that she is "native-born" (some say born in Fargo) and a former Miss North Dakota!

I couldn't find any source that explains how and why she is a "dual citizen." It may be that one or both parents were (or are) Iranian citizens, and that Iran claims all of their descendents as Iranian citizens (some countries do). There is no indication that she has done anything to accede to Iran's claims, but nothing to the contrary, either.

When you are a native-born american, I think that any other country's claims to "dual citizenship" are so much wind, unless you do something to take advantage of it.

You missed the sarcasm in the post. Since he didn’t want his middle name used during the election, but then used it for taking the oath, it’ a way of now emphasizing his “Moslem” roots.

There’s a difference between using your full given name while taking an oath, and having political opponents emphasize (”Barack HUSSEIN Obama”) your middle name as a slur. Unless you heard people on the campaign trail regularly refer to “John SYDNEY McCain” and “Sarah LOUISE Palin” from the stage, then there was a slur intended in the exaggerated use of his middle name. Intent matters. Using your own full name in an oath is different.
