Cris Collinsworth will succeed John Madden as the analyst in the NBC broadcast booth for the network's Sunday night NFL game telecasts, NBC executive Dick Ebersol announced during a conference call with reporters today.

Madden announced his retirement from broadcasting earlier today, rejecting an offer made Wednesday by Ebersol to work the network's September and November games next season and take October and December off.

He has one of the worst voices in pro sports broadcasting! It’s awful. He sounds like he’s straining to get the words out. Unlistenable!

Well, I don't have it voting records. But, he lives (or at least did before his NBC gig) in the Cincinnati area and has a sport-talk radio show on Cincy's conservative blow-torch WLW - a solidly conservative radio channel.

You can google him. He has well-documented conservative credentials. And, it's a poorly kept secret that there's tremendous tension between he and Olberdork. During one of the NBC pre-game shows, Olberdork went on a Limbaugh tirade with Collinsworth at the desk. Collinsworth, in a very nice way, called O an idiot.

Still, I guess it could have been worse. It could have been Theismann.

"I've been trying to find his political contributions on Open Secrets but without success.

Bob Costas is an unabashed liberal. But, I bet you won't find any political contributions from him as well.

Collinsworth is a conservative. Hopefully someone who's from Cincy will add to the discussion.

Collinsworth!!!!= I. D. I. O. T.

Has Dick Ebersol gone senile!!!!!!

I will boycott NBC!!!

Letter writing campaign time to advertisers to dump this I.D.I.O.T.

HE IS A DUMB COLOR ANALYST!!!

Why would you put an ex NFL player that has not won any superbowl? Not a coach or even an assistant!!

Collingsworth a Conservative? Are you nuts? He’s just slightly and I mean slightly to the right of Olberman. He’s a full blown lefty and the crappies anouncer on the air today. I would rather listen to the dolt with the penchant for the obvious, Dan Dierdorff than Collingsworth.

"Uh, if he’s a ‘conservative’, he’s pretty populist and dull one. His comments about race, etc. are absolute crap. Nothing I’ve heard him say as a sports commentator makes me believe he’s conservative.

Some people, especially in the entertainment biz, don't wear their politics on their sleeves. Al Michaels is a very strong conservative, but you'd never know it except for the fact that he acknowledges being friends with Rush. But, he never makes directly conservative statements, just very quiet digs at liberals.

Actually, I'm surprised by the push-back. I thought Collinsworth political leanings were more well-known that what some have indicated here.

We must be listening to alternate universe Chris Collinsworths. If he's a full blown "lefty" as you put it, why would he be a registered Republican who's donated to the likes of Rob Portman and Jim Bunning?

Just looked on the link and all his contributions are for the R”s. I have listened to him on some football games and he is not that bad. At least he is not a flaming liberal!

Great. Going from an good ole boy who never called out any player for off the field offenses despite apparently being troubled by them to one who offers mind blowing nuggets like; “you can’t win games if you take too many penalties.”

Watching the Flyers-Pens on NBC now and the camera work is awful. Production value is a thing of the past.

I'm always puzzled by the fact that (here in Philadelphia, at least) the radio and television feed don't sync up. The radio is about 5 or 6 seconds ahead, which is great if you're making a sandwich in the kitchen. listening to the radio, and you need a heads up to run back to the living room to catch a big play.
But to listen to some insufferable fool (CBS guys are the worst) call your game, when your hometown guy is on the radio, that's the worst.
Having lost Harry Kalas this week, you realize how special that familiar voice calling the game is.

Matt, who do you think the G Men are targeting in the draft? Is the Braylon Edwards thing dead?

I’ve already all but ceased to watch Sunday Night Football since they brought Olberwad on for the intros and halftime.

I always thought Chris leaned our way, but the fact of the matter is he is horrible as an announcer. His place is in the studio suckerpunching Olberman anytime he doesn’t talk sports.

At least there will be 2 conservatives in the booth on Sunday nights....

He's a leftist. There's a difference. I found his comments during the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney to be disgusting.

No way is the Braylon Edwards trade talks dead. I don’t imagine you’ll see something happen until draft day. As stupid an organization as the Browns are, even they’re not stupid enough to undervalue him.....we’ll see.

If it were me I would accept nothing less than a 1st, 3rd and Steve Smith for Braylon.

But again Giant fans, you’re dealing with the laughingstock of the NFL, so take that for what it means....
