This is why I've decided to start to look for oppurtunities to move my family to Texas. My husband's company has an office in Dallas and in Houston and they've told him he can transfer.
“Gawdawful plain flat ugly country in that sector.”
But there’s all that lovely oil under the ground you are driving on. Trees don’t power your car.
Tough people live in the outback of Texas. They generally are some of the best folks in the state, but they don’t cotton to whining...especially about the scenery. They don’t live there because of the scenery, and they don’t care if you find it objectionable.
You can’t beat Texas, and yes the people are friendly and nicer.
It’s a julian calender for jugglers !
Moved to San Antonio from S. Ca. 13 months ago. You will not regret making the move. One reason of many: no state income taxes. I had to file in Ca. because of the three months we lived there last year. Seeing how much CA confiscated because we lived there three months was another reminder why we are so glad to be out of there and in TX.
You’re right about red state people too. It’s a much friendlier bunch in TX.
Yup. Wipe feet good. Really good and don’t look back! Got Salt???
EVERYONE can’t move to Texas...the country will tip over. :)
We drove from Wisconsin, south to Georgia, Florida, around to Louisiana, into Texas and then up Arkansas and Illinois to home. I didn’t notice it on the way south, but on the way home, I noticed when the men stopped holding the doors open for women. It was as soon as we stopped in Illinois. We loved the people we met in the south. They could actually carry on a conversation!
I’m right outside Dallas . Lots of conservatives here! If you need any ideas in where to look met me know. I’ve been here all my 37 years!
That sounds dreamy and wonderful!!
I’ve never in my life seen such a union and
political machine controlled city as Chicago,
as well as the whole corrupt state.
God bless you and yours .... I think it’s a great
decision, and I have a feeling you’ll ultimately
be saving a LOT of $$ over the cost of living
in IL and Chicago in particular. Keep an extra
bunk handy ... LOL.
ROFL!!
BTW, I LOVE Gov. Perry’s recent statements.
Welcome. Houston and Dallas are very different from each other in climate and scenery so be sure to visit both cities and see which one calls to you. They both have a lot to recommend them.
“We are eager to get out of NJ but we cant at the moment.”
We left East Brunswick in 2006 and came to Texas.
“You forgot the resturants....ever had a James Coney Island???”
No, but I was in Coney Island two weeks ago and had a Nathans hot dog.
Texas is 800 miles across from East to West and about the same from North to South. You can’t drive across it in a day (unless you’re a fanatic, insomniac or lunatic).
The country varies greatly. We’ve got plains, flat lands, desert, hills, mountains, pine forests, sea coast and canyons and mesas.
It’s cheaper, friendlier and easier to do a lot of things here. People are generous and helpful.
We’ve got plenty of urban areas, culture, museums and Dallas/Ft. Worth is the 4th largest metropolitian area in America after NYC, LA and Chicago. Bigger than Boston, Philly, Miami, Seattle, SF, etc. We’ve got little, and real big.
And the cowgirls here can kick your a$$. If they want to. But they’re real friendly too.
“Janice Joplin got her start in a place called Threadgills which is about a block away from where I live here in Austin.”
Ate at Threadgills a few weeks back. Still the best home cooking there is outside of the home.
I am a yankee with a U-haul and have lived in Dallas for 2 years and I love it !!!!
I have never been to Houston but rumor has it that the humidty is wicked there. I find the summers hot here but the humidity is not nearly as bad as what we had in IN and I find them more tolerable.....the winters here are wonderful !!!!
Feel to FReep mail me with any questions.....
Oklahoma is the most conservative state in the United States, per the last election. Every last single county voted for the Republican ticket, including the two major metro areas in the state (which usually go Democrat in other states).
So, you also can’t beat Oklahoma... :-)
In addition to that, Oklahoma passed the most sweeping anti-illegal-immigration law in the country..., making all the illegals disappear out of the state, literally “overnight”... LOL...

And this is one thing you *won’t* find in Texas... :-)
I love Oklahoma, if I couldn’t live in Texas I’d
move there.
In Texas, we lived in Amarillo for 18 years and loved it. Our kids have lived in Dallas and Houston and have no complaints about anything except the heat and humidity.
But, Chicago's climate is pretty similar, IMO.
