Why I want to move to Texas
Me

Posted on 04/18/2009 5:12:18 PM PDT by cubsfanconswoman

This is why I've decided to start to look for oppurtunities to move my family to Texas. My husband's company has an office in Dallas and in Houston and they've told him he can transfer.

When we had a group come in from Texas or Louisiana everyone would become fast friends, have lunch in groups, go out after training together to events and I was treated like a friend. I am still friends with quite a few of them. When I had my first child many contributed towards a gift card for me.

I'm a Texan that spent as much time as I could in louisiana (Texan Janice Joplin used to go there a lot too) they are truly fine people.

we have naked Thursdays here in Texas

We have something similar in California...it's called "Naked what day is this, and does anyone care?"

I love that song. It was the song for my favorite Cubs player for the past 11 years who now is an Indian and a great rep from the great state.

Although I wasn’t familiar with the song when he first came up and wondered why the heck they played “I’ve Been Working on The Railroad” when he batted.

Then I saw a UT game and they sang it at the end.

It was a good song for Kerry because one of his distinguishing features was that stare.

Stay off the Interstate,

Let alone that stretch through Midland-Odessa.....I drove that route just once, and have avoided it in later trips, just due to the "highway hypnosis" factor. Gawdawful plain flat ugly country in that sector.

There has been a test floated on here a few times, it was roundly decided that prior to the move, FReepers would have their posts PRIOR to April of this year checked. If they were good, automatic citizenship!

The rest, need a test for sure!

LOL, I too am a Cubbie fan.

8-8-88 was the most memorable day of my life.
Bernies, Cubbie Bear Lounge, oh ya good memories

The first ball game my dad took me too had a short stop
named Ernie Banks. Oh ya’ I've been a Cubs fan for a while.

My mom also lives in Lake County. Unfortunately she has fallen
under the 0bami spell. So I'm aware of the change in Illinois.
She was always a precinct worker and a very loyal (R). Now she believes
anything AARP, its scary I tell ya’... Whats happened up there?

Janice Joplin got her start in a place called Threadgills which is about a block away from where I live here in Austin.

Matthew McConaughey's famous bongo house is about 5 minutes away as well.

Texas is a great place to live, Austin not so much because of the liberal concentration here but there is no state income tax for now, but high property taxes.

You can get a CHL here though, like I have.

If you're conservative, come to Austin and help us change things. If you're a liberal, then stay the hell away.

Come on down!

Be quick, though, as after the secession immigration will be limited.

Dallas job market is struggling, like everyone else. IT has been hit especially bad. Layoffs continue in some areas, but most of the big employers are pretty much done now. We have a large contingent of local and community banks that seem to be doing fine for the most part. Telecom is prominent here (AT&T is moving headquarters here from San Antonio). Insurance giants seem to have a strong representation as well. I don’t know how they’re doing. Real estate is big here and seems to be doing well. It’s a pretty diverse economy.

Like someone else said, local taxing authorities seem to have no limits on their taxation, but school district taxes have gone down for the past two years, and is expected to go down one last time next year, so that has offset the increases in county and local taxes. Our property taxes do seem high compared to some states..but probably not compared to Chicago Illinois! And when you consider that we don’t pay the hundreds in income tax, sales tax on groceries or pharmaceuticals, and we have moderate winters with low utility costs, I believe we still come out ahead. Our property taxes on our $300,000 house in a Dallas County suburb run about $500 a month. (We own a property in Oklahoma worth about $75,000 and the taxes on it are $500 a year!)

When you come to Texas....Visit - shop at the local Supermarket. Strike up a conversation, make a comment while standing in the checkout line.....

THERE is where you will notice the difference between NY and Texas. We actually take time to talk to our fellow citizens.

Same with the Fast food Stores to buy Gas....mostly a courteous transaction.

“And if I moved to Houston my Cubs come in 3 times a year so I can go see them there. I love their park anyway.”

Go Astros, the Cubs are my mosted hated team. Nothing like a good rivalry though to make games more interesting. HAHAHA. All in good fun.

You wont be alone in being a Cub fan if you move to Texas.

We went to a bAstros game last year and I was surprised to see the number of Cub fans in attendance.

My father, btw, lived in Houston, but we were all from the Chicago area, and anyway, he lovingly referred to the Astros as the bAstros.

I am a lifelong Cub fan,

It’s not flat in and around Hill Country down near Austin. And some parts of even Dallas/Ft. Worth are hilly. It’s a huge area, so you’d have to drive around and see what area might appeal to you. In east Dallas area, a city called Rockwall sits on the banks of a lake, and so it’s pretty hilly. Plano is flat as a pancake. Northern Dallas and Collin county has some rolling hills the further north you go. Parts of the mid-cities and Ft. Worth are very hilly. You just have to come check it out.

Eaker gets the days mixed up all the time.....or at least he says so.

I thought the calendar you sent to me was screwy!
