Another example:

Iphone ran over by 18 wheeled truck, still works

Why can’t my Macs work that well after living with me...

Macs are good machines.
But.....about 90% of the World is on Windows.

There is no way I'd switch to a Mac unless someone gave me one. And even then, it would be a 3rd rate back-up for Photoshop, etc.

Windows rules. Always has; Always will.

The hard drive came through, not the mac. Chock this one up for Fujistsu or whichever company made the drive. Apple doesn’t make their own hard drives.

The computer still boots up. That’s more than just the drive.

I’d bet that Air has the SSD drive option. Any massive impact would damage the little 1.8 inch drive in the Air.

If that were a Toughbook it would still be fine.

Welcome to FreeRepublic, noob. (2008-05-27)

> Macs are good machines. But.....about 90% of the World is on Windows... Windows rules.

No argument on the number of machines in use. I've got half a dozen Windows boxes myself, and a lot more at work where I administer an international company network full of them.

But this thread was about hardware quality and robustness, not how many dweebs can buy crap hardware.

> Always has;

No, that's fairly recent (last 15 years or so). Computers - and personal computers - were around long before Windows took off, ya know. I've been fooling with these things since 1970, and they were around before that, too.

> Always will.

Remains to be seen. Windows NT (that is, 2K/XP/Vista/7) is as dead in the water now as the old Mac OS and the Windows DOS branch were in 1999.

Microsoft has to do something drastic, like throw out the current codebase and rewrite Windows as a GUI (which I like, BTW) over a real operating system like Unix. Apple did it and saved their company. Microsoft has to do the same. NT is dead and too dumb to fall over.

Otherwise, I'll give Windows another 5 years to lose a third of its marketshare, mainly to Macs, a little to Linux. After that, who knows. Unfortunately, I don't think Apple would do well if they became a majority player -- they're a much better underdog, numbers-wise.

Just curious -- As a Windows fanboi, did you post on this thread just to troll, or do you have a point somewhere in there?

True... but Macs have an accelerometer included that will park the hard drive if it senses rapid movement. But also, look again... the computer is working and half of the broken screen is still displaying the desktop.

That’s awesome. I have a Mac Pro and it’s built like a friggin tank. Oh, and the software/OS has never crashed in the 18 months I have had it. I will never buy another PC again.

My Air with SSD was knocked off of the kitchen table to the ceramic floor by one of our viking kittens. It has worked fine since the fall with all but a few scratches to the case. The Air is an amazing piece of hardware and I prefer it over our macbooks.

But those computers that are Windows run have more computer problems then you can count on your hand, plus all the problems with viruses,ete.,.

Also in the arts and communications industries, Macs ARE THE RULE.

When a Turkish Airways Flight crashed in Amsterdam earlier this year, killing nine people and injuring 121 others, there was one survivor that makes a pretty convincing case for unibody Airline construction: Passenger Sefer Baris’ MacBook Air.

God, what a sick way of saying my computer is better than yours.

And if the majority of this country jumped off a cliff would you do that, too? Wait... the majority of this country DID jump off a cliff!

“But also, look again... the computer is working and half of the broken screen is still displaying the desktop.”

Fine and dandy if the screen can be replaced.

From the looks of things....it can’t.

At any rate, I’ve had to suffer Mac OS crashes, most of them stemming from the pre-OSX era.
