I’ll call BS unless there’s a photo somewhere. The casket at a military funeral must be draped with an American flag until “Taps” is played.
No seal would desecrate the flag by sticking his trident in it.

I call BS, too. Mike Mansoor was a SEAL. He was awarded the MOH for his actions.

I’ve seen the pictures - it’s real. The Tridents went on the coffin, and the Flag followed ...

I was regular army, and never had to attend a funeral for a fallen comrade, so you may be right.
There must be some vets who could verify the possibility of this happening.

I’m a retired USAF Colonel and I’ve been to too many funerals including several at Arlington. The flag covers the casket until the graveside honors are complete.

nmh has posted 2 links. The first one shows the tridents being punched into the coffin. Forward to the 8th minute of the video.

This picture and the YouTube video I just watched settles it.
I was after the casket was laid down, but it was done.

The pins stick straight out the backside as they do on almost any military badge and are held on with a special clip that covers the pointed end inside the shirt.
They are not like safety pins at all.
