Americas small and independent brewers are asking beer drinkers to sign a Declaration of Beer Independence. By becoming a fan of American Craft Beer Week on Facebook, over 1,300 individuals have already expressed their celebration of craft beer from Americas 1,483 small and independent brewers.
So whats to declare? The complete declaration emphasizes informed consumption, though I personally dont consume beer, I drink and enjoy it. Whats the lowdown on informed consumption? In short, its a fundamental mindset of honest and simple knowledge; seeking the facts about where beers are brewed and who brews it.
There is no contrarian Declaration of Beer Dependence for those who may not care whether the beer they drink is made by a small/independent/local brewery or mass production large international corporation. Beer is beer. Or is it?

I remember a microbrewery’s beer menu with proud detailed descriptions of its many fine varieties.
At the tail end of the last page was one last item. In small print it read:
If you must...Bud Light...$2.50

A few years ago my significant other and I went to Napa valley with another couple to visit wineries over a three day weekend.
The other couple returned home with a couple cases of wine.
We had a trunk and back seat full of craft brew. It was the best mini-vacation ever.

One of the finest beers I have ever tasted is “paint pot porter” It is only served on tap at the Old Faithful In at Yellowstone.
Like nectar it was.
