Safe travels, then, john!
Bit did you know that there is a book devoted to a single day's action - both sides - in the Battle of Britain? I think the date is Aug. 18....also, when the official history of the battle was written & published...not one mention of Dowding!

A lot of people buy guns as you describe and never use them. You should get something you’re going to be comfortable with and use in practice lots, and hopefully, never in an emergency, but you need to be ready.

No, I didn’t know about that book — did you catch the name?
To: Bitwhacker
Yes, it's referenced in the Korda book, and the title is:
The battle of Britain: the Hardest Day by Alfred Price.
The Korda book has a nice bibliography too, which are getting rarer I'm finding.

Here it is...altho the title is slightly different from what Korda listed:
The Hardest DayThis writer wrote several other books on the air war

LOL! phone call with the kids.... Question from the jury pool: "And what happens if something happens?"
Answer: We let the officials sort it out with dental records.
Rebuttal Question: "Do you have a clue where your teeth are?!?"
Gotta love my baby girls. They're always right there.

Good morning Snarly, and Happy Easter!
Saw you asking about guns. I'm an NRA member, own several guns, am a member of Colorado Rifle Club, and am soon going to be reloading my own ammo, (if I can get primers, that is). I see you got lots of good advice here. I emphasize to not go to Walmart for anything to do with firearms. Spend your time at gun shops. Also, gun shows are an excellent place to go. The exhibitors are all too happy to talk guns because guns are their passion. Here's one site that has a few upcoming shows listed. CA gun shows

Spring
John Gould Fletcher
At the first hour, it was as if one said, “Arise.”
At the second hour, it was as if one said, “Go forth.”
And the winter constellations that are like patient ox-eyes
Sank below the white horizon at the north.
At the third hour, it was as if one said, “I thirst”;
At the fourth hour, all the earth was still:
Then the clouds suddenly swung over, stooped, and burst;
And the rain flooded valley, plain and hill.
At the fifth hour, darkness took the throne;
At the sixth hour, the earth shook and the wind cried;
At the seventh hour, the hidden seed was sown;
At the eighth hour, it gave up the ghost and died.
At the ninth hour, they sealed up the tomb;
And the earth was then silent for the space of three hours.
But at the twelfth hour, a single lily from the gloom
Shot forth, and was followed by a whole host of flowers.

Thanks for the reminder! A year+ ago we lost a nearby gun store, but you helped me remember one near another route I frequently take...

Right - if we get a gun, we intend to do it the right way. We were just trying to be looky-loos yesterday.
