I was sitting in the movie theatre eating popcorn and Milk Duds while watching the previews of upcoming attractions when my wife asked how I could combine two seemingly opposite food items. I told her that Milk Duds, when eaten simultaneously with popcorn, are very tasty. Dont knock it until youve tried it.
While waiting for the feature presentation I began to think of other strange food combinations that I have eaten through the years. Since childhood, I have dipped my potato chips into applesauce. Like Milk Duds and popcorn, the combination of the salt in the chips and sugar in the applesauce play well off of each other. I have always put ketchup on butter beans and now my children have now acquired a taste for their fathers strange legume-meets-tomato-condiment pairing.
I began to wonder what other people might eat in the way of strange food pairings, so I logged on to my Facebook page and posed the question: What are the strange food combinations that you like to eat?

make that jam some pepper jelly and that’s some good eats.
A sandwich made from peanut butter and jelly with...barbecue potato chips. Food of the gods, I tell you.
When I was a kid the only way I could eat cottage cheese was to mix it up with canned pork & beans.
About once every 2 weeks I have grilled peanut butter, bacon and banana sandwiches for dinner. I usually add some diced jalapeño to spice them up.
Peanut Butter and Frito Sandwiches
That sounds good.
I don't know. I've never had one in my mouth.
One of my favorite sandwiches might sound odd to others, but to me it sounds, and tastes, delicious. Cream cheese, tomato and black olives on Squaw bread.
I smother my mac and cheese with Worchestershire sauce. Especially with cut up hot dogs in it. Mmm Mmmm. :-)
I can’t eat Milk Duds. Feels like I’m going to pull every tooth out of my head.
Mmmmtastic!

Oh, Oh. Oh! I thought I was the only person in the world who ate peanut butter and dill pickle slices!
USED to anyway! Not actually ON the sandwich, but a bite of sandwich, bite of dill pickle slice- oh, and had to have sweet iced tea with it.
Still like melted peanut butter on toast with iced tea, but no pickle.
I’ve seen people in Cajun country plop a scoop of potato salad in their gumbo! That just makes me queasy.
Me too. I also grew up on hot dog or rib sauce that was 1 jar yellow mustard & 1 jar grape jelly ( equal sizes) slowly mixed together until until blended. Sounds awful but it is pretty good.
Peanut butter on a slice of Walla Walla Sweet Onion.
