Angels Starting Pitcher Killed After Ball Game
Posted Apr 9th 2009 10:49AM by TMZ Staff
TMZ has learned Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a felony hit-and-run car accident in Fullerton, California early this morning -- hours after he pitched in a game last night.
Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light, causing the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding in to hit a light pole. Three people were killed in the crash, including Nick.
Cops say the person driving the van fled the scene -- but was later caught and charged with felony hit-and-run. The suspect is currently being treated for injuries in a local hospital.
We're told one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization.
Nick was 22-years-old.
FYI -- Nick pitched his ass off last night, striking out 5 guys in 6 scoreless innings. His performance was hailed by sportswriters as a "brilliant effort by a 22-year-old right-hander making his fourth Major League start."
Story developing...
The Angels have called him up.
Prayers for Nick and his family.
It's quite a reminder on how fragile life is, and money and fame does not protect you from freak accidents.
Josh Hancock ran into a tow truck parked in the far left line of a highway that had stopped to help a disabled car.
Perp was not identified by name.
Odds are dead even that he was an illegal.
My goodness? What was the minivan that hit him doing? About 100 MPH? What total devastation!!!
Prayers for those who were killed.....
It seems the roof had to be cut away to extract the victims.
Isn’t this exactly why the cop in TX last week was forced to quit his job after being put on administrative leave and castigated naitonwide in the news .. he stopped an NFL player for blowing thru a red light?
The circumstances of the driver in that case may have been sympathetic, but the cop was doing his damned job however heavy handedly.
Why would any cop ever again pull over and ticket a driver blowing off a red light ?
I think what’s heavy-handed here is your comparison of the two situations.
Anyone know where Rick Sanchez - (D-CNN) was?
There’s a difference between running a red light in Tx v. running a red light in CA?
Blaming Glenn Beck for the car wreck?
There’s a difference between running a redlight at the speed involved here, without looking to see if the intersection is clear, for no good reason, and what Moats did.
Haven't seen a name, or country of origin either.
So if your family is wiped out by a red-light runner who happens to be an NFL player who merely ROLLED thru a red light it’s ok ?
You don’t think people have been killed by a mere ‘roll thru?’
We have laws for a reason; if you want to accommodate them cafeteria style, go ahead.
I don’t wish to pursue your line of reasoning any further, thank you.
I heard about this this morning. It’s very sad.
God, receive their souls....
Sorry to hear but the liberals should be yelling - Ban minivans!
if the midstreams ever let us find out!
Oh no, that is just horrible. Prayers go out for all of their families and friends. May God comfort them and give them all strength for the difficult days ahead. He was so young.
Whom did Moats hit? What family was killed?
Wow, you’re no run of the mill jackass, are you?
I remember both incidents—Kile was found dead in a hotel room in Chicago...and I do remember the Hancock incident (he had been with Red Sox before)
There have been various ballplayers killed in accidents; a couple others who come to mind were the Indians players who
died in a boating accident in Fla. during spring training
