Angels Starting Pitcher Killed After Ball Game
Posted Apr 9th 2009 10:49AM by TMZ Staff
TMZ has learned Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a felony hit-and-run car accident in Fullerton, California early this morning -- hours after he pitched in a game last night.
Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light, causing the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding in to hit a light pole. Three people were killed in the crash, including Nick.
Cops say the person driving the van fled the scene -- but was later caught and charged with felony hit-and-run. The suspect is currently being treated for injuries in a local hospital.
We're told one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization.
Nick was 22-years-old.
FYI -- Nick pitched his ass off last night, striking out 5 guys in 6 scoreless innings. His performance was hailed by sportswriters as a "brilliant effort by a 22-year-old right-hander making his fourth Major League start."
Story developing...
I used to live on Amerige and Balcom.....in the early 80’s
Makes about as much sense........
One that was missed in that list.
Preston Gomez, assistant to the GM, who died in January from injuries suffered in an accident while returning from spring training in March of 2008. The Angels have been wearing a patch honoring Gomez this season.
Mr. Gomez was ran over in a gas station...and never fully recovered.
I disagree.
People who drive safely should not have to worry.
If you put such cameras and speed checking at only dangerous intersections, then it reduces traffic fatalities...
For example, if there have been 10 fatalities at one intersection over 10 years, then put it there...
It is quite common, from what I have heard, for people to get hit in a major city by people running lights.
Less likely in small towns...
Do you know what the accident statistics are AFTER “Red-Light Camera’s” are placed?
In L.A. ? Even money .

There is also a link from the story to the PDF of a federal study.
topher is wrong on this point.......
We shall see if he / she admits it........
I just glanced at the article and study. Apparently, it is doing such a good job that traffic citations are down and revenues for cities have been shrinking. It appears that people know the cameras are there and don’t want a ticket.
S***head. Makes me mad.
Maybe I am wrong?
You and I can certainly agree about the illegal alien problem. In this case, however, he had a valid drivers license that had been suspended for DUI. That means he was a citizen. The Mexican part does not matter. Lots of whites, blacks, and yellows cause accidents and drive drunk.
Look at the stats, especially for Southern California, and you’ll see why I am not the least bit surprised that it was a DUI Hispanic that caused this.
What boils my blood, is Gallo survived and the good guys got killed.
sw
I understand and I want all the illegals to be sent home. I would volunteer to drive a busload. But we have many great citizens who came here from Mexico the right way. This guy was simply a scumbag who happened to (apparently) be of Mexican heritage.
Agreed. Nothing against people of Mexican heritage in general, and certainly nothing against anyone who comes here the right way. But I’ve seen way too many of this type of story in which I’ve seen the surname or mugshot and...yep...no surprise.
My first thought was drunk illegal alien. Yes, it happens over and over and over.
The death a few days ago was from a beating.
If the real goal were safety, that would be good news.
