NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The script was perfect for the first NHL goal by the son of one of the notorious Hanson brothers from the movie "Slap Shot."
Christian Hanson got it against his favorite player, Martin Brodeur, and the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie didn't seem to care it didn't come on a slap shot. "To be honest I would have taken it any way it would have gone in. Off my head, off my butt, off my skate, and luckily it went off my stick," said Hanson, whose backhander capped a three-goal first period that led Toronto to a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.
Hanson was hoping to speak with his dad, former hockey player turned actor Dave Hanson, after leaving the locker room.
"I'm sure they were watching it at home and jumped through the roof," said the 23-year-old Hanson, who signed with the Maple Leafs last week after finishing his career at Notre Dame.

BUMP!
‘Slap Shot’ was an excellent movie. I think I read that somebody wants to remake it.
Like with ‘Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid’, and ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ (for only two examples out of many), I will never understand why Hollywood tries to remake movies that cannot possibly be improvements over the originals. It’s stupid and lazy.
“Hey Hanrahan, she’s a dyke!”
OH MAN I love the Slapshot the movie LOL!
You know why
There is no new ideas in Hollywood they rehashing everything come on they going do remake of Ghostbusters
Also Bonnie and Clyde there been talk about that
American or National league?
Hmm... I don’t know what that ‘N’ in ‘NHL’ might stand for...
My best friend is a hockey fan and his son's played in hight school. The equipment you need to buy is amongst the most expensive in sports. I've always considered it an elitist sport.
Anyway, every time he brings up hockey my response is "Nobody watches hockey". I'm pretty sure I'm right.
With all due respect, I must challenge you on that statement.
My daughter's husband is a hockey player - so there is at least 'one' family that watches hockey. (grin)
I just use that phrase to bust my friend. And i say it to all hockey fans.
I would be careful about saying it at a game (especially if you are sitting close to the ice - when the players may hear you.) LOL
Don’t go to games!
WHAT? You “Don’t go to games!?” OMG, you don’t know what you are missing! (smile)
Been to one. Rangers V. Islanders. 20 yrs ago (probably more. Estimating)
There are people who like hockey (personally, I think it is to see the fights), and people who like NASCAR -(I’m one - and my adrenaline goes sky high, when there is an ‘incident’ on the track.)
To each his own, I guess - but adrenaline probably plays a role.
Baseball is the perfect game. 9 guys, each playing his position alone, yet his play affects his team mates. No other game is like it. It is the perfect game, and the NY Mets are the perfect team, even though they haven’t realized it yet.
