Okay guys, while I applaud the entrepreneurial (sp?) spirit of the young men down the street, while they wash cars for folks they keep their stereos going.
Surprise of all surprises, they never play a lovely concerto or opera. They play ghetto "music". All you can hear is bass and the occasional obscenity.
Because I am an old, um, severely un-tanned woman, I plan to play music as I wash the minivan, weed the flowerbed, walk to the mailbox, whatever...whenever they are playing their music. That's right folks - a regular Battle of the Bands!
Keeping in mind they would love much of the very "music" we hate...I'd like your suggestions to add to my boom box sitting on the front porch. Opera, Polka, what do you suggest? And to keep them interested I'll need a good variety.
Because these concerts will end when they realize they need to turn theirs down (and they will, I think. They don't seem to be bad kids...just kids) the selections will need to be cheap and easily obtained.
Heh. I have a car sound system that can crack windows and many a time been at lights and had to crank it up. It was for the children don’t ya know.
Once at a notoriously long inner city light a car pulled along side with some trash blaring ... there was that momentary sideways glance, I smiled, nodded and rolled down my window and said “Thanks for sharing your music” ...the kid said, “Oh sorry” and lowered it ...much to my amazement. At that very same time, my passenger slid low on his seat and said,”You’re going to get us killed!”

I wouldn’t go p/a if i hadn’t TRIED THAT ALREADY.
kimmie7, I hope you are armed. ;-D
“Inna Gadda Davida”. The long version. Over and over and over...
When I’m in the car next to a ghetto blastin’ car, my weapon of choice is Toby Mac.
ewwwwwwwww
Skip the music.
Play some of the Zero’s speeches!
Please ignore my previous post. I see you’ve already asked them to turn it down. Sorry. :-)
DING DING DING DING! We have a winner!
I experienced the same thing after a trip to Disneyland decades ago ... then a few years later I met a girl who had the same experience ... then just a couple of days ago Bill Bennett mentioned he had the same experience. LOL!
The first thing that came to mind was Slim Whitman, with the visual image of the exploding heads in Mars Attacks!
ding ding ding!
LOL, by the title only we may have a winner!
I have. ;-)
I may have answered my own query.
I had a co-worker who loved to listen to Star Trek soundtraks - particularly the Clingon opera. That could very well do it.
What’s really sad is the Manilow suggestions. I have his greatest hits CD. I know every word to every song. Even the “hey!s” in Copacabana. I actually like Gregorian chant - but not as much as hubby does. I have an Abba CD and like most of it. And used to want to be Tony Tenille. I’m so pathetic.

My favorites:
- Anything by Philip Glass (Koyyanisqatsi is a personal fav)
- Korean meditation music (Kim Young Dong’s Traveling of Korean Meditation is quite good)
- Anything with yodeling
Seriously, the first two will do the trick. And yes, I actually own them and listen to them. Voluntarily!
The Zero said “It’s a Small World” was one of his favorite songs. Does this surprise anyone, LOL?!
Actually, I’ll add one vote for “Tighten Up” by Archie Bell and the Drells.
