For Obama this is the culminating point of his life.
This is about him, not our nation.
Think of it this way. Like some that think they made it in life because they now have a Cadillac with big chrome rims and light effects, for the Obama this is it. This is his moment and he knows it. Weeks of partying in the White House, a 150 million dollar inauguration, and now he gets to hang out with sophisticated European intellectuals that he always wants to emulate.
