Bronx pooch Cassidy had just three legs to stand on until he got a fourth, thanks to a cutting-edge technique that made him a walking miracle. The German-shepherd mix -- well, OK, mutt -- has become one of the few animals in the world to receive a permanent prosthetic limb, and is a trailblazer whose surgical experience could help humans.

He’s one lucky dog. It is easier to attach a prosthesis to hind quarters. My beloved cairn terrier Millie had a front leg amputated. It was difficult for her to go up and down stairs. The cancer didn’t get her. We lost her to kidney failure in October.

I am a meat eating, anti-PETA, fiercely pro animal medical research advocate.

But I also think that when we are kind and relieve the suffering of dogs and other animals, we are ennobled and godly.

Cairn Terriers are great dogs. As soon as I get my acre fenced, I’m going to get a couple of ‘em. I had one before and he was a fantastic pet.
I’ll also get a large version of German Shepherd to protect them in case a coyote decides to jump the fence for a quick meal!
