Exactly. I've tried to describe that to people who've never been there and they just don't understand. There are some places where the history lingers in the air. Walking the battlefield at night is somehow simultaneously eerie and peaceful.

South Carolina always amazed me with their above-ground graves, too. This country bumpkin had never seen anything like that up until then. :)

Some who go report hearing things, seeing soldiers etc...would not doubt a place like that could still have something even left.

However, I bet most cases are just people walking the gronds and getting spooked just from the eeriness of being where so many died.

I would have difficulty arguing against either assertion. I had an experience at Gettysburg (Cashtown, to be more specific) in 1989 that still gives me gooseflesh...

You can add Iwo Jima to that list. I was there in 1985 and it was truly an amazing and haunted place. The Coasties who were stationed there could tell you some tales.
