Idiot tree huggers!
Mountain Lions are predators.
If they do not fear humans, you must kill them.
My grandfather hunted them in NM many many years ago.
Smart powerful cats.
“And if a wild predator loses his fear of humans, he needs to be put down. “
Sometimes, yes. This was a 10month old.
Relocation programs have been fairly successful.
“Well then why trap and move the animal at all.”
Why indeed unless their numbers get too large. I have no problem with that.
My bet is that this cougar will be back eating poodles and pomeranians soon. Chances are the cougar population in the area is saturated, and that is why the young cat got the last pick for his territory. Cat populations in most of the west are too high and need to be reduced.
I wouldn't bet on that.
I would like to see just how closely related all these 'new' cougar populations are.
It would not surprise me if ALF of the Earth-First types had 'seeded' them and they are more closely related than ordianry geographic distribution would allow.
We went from rare (unofficial, anecdotal, until someone dropped a dead one on Fish and Game's doorstep) sightings to fairly widespread and documented multiple cat (two or more) encounters within a couple of years.
Active official denial of their presence means that hunting (legislatively, and technically) is behind the curve, and that a population with no fear of humans will be more likely to start showing up in laces humans frequent, and very close to population centers.
well then we must practice the 3 S
Shoot
Shovel
Shut up.
Wrong. There was a story in the Wisconsin papers a few weeks ago, with pictures, of a treed, big cat in northern Wisconsin. The DNR boys tried to capture him, but he escaped. I have a hunter friend of mine who swears he's seen big cat tracks in southern Wisconsin. They're here, east of the Mississippi, and coming to a neighborhood near you.
Yep, old Jennifer and her buddies are at it again, catch and release. How long til it’s back in town, a week, a month or longer you can bet it’ll be back.
Her job is very secure living in the liberal bastion of Boulder. Chances are they released it in an area already claimed by other lions. He will be back soon to eat Alpo fattened Fee Fees off of back porches, and Jenny will come to the rescue again.
I don’t mind the idea of relocating mountain lions... I might visit a friend in CO next year, with the intention of ‘relocating’ a one to my living room. ;-)
You’re right, the lion will either be killed by the dominant one that owns the territory or it’ll be back for easy meals (pets on decks).
Hiya, Yank.
BUMP!
People I know have heard lions at dusk in SE Wisconsin for several years...
Hows it going?!
I couldn’t remember my pasword to the Camera comment page, and then it dawned on me that the FR community was more important than Boulderites, most of whom suffer Boulder Dementia Syndrome.
Anyway:
dd-unlimited, and all too many other posts are simply not based on hard data.
Also, may I suggest that telling another person with which one disagrees to “bugger off” is both ill mannered and may cause you to be confused with one of the members of that population commonly known as the ‘academented”. Surely that is something no one wants.
Fact 1.
For most om America’s history, mountain lion attacks were virtually un heard of.
Fact 2.
Only after man was forbidden from exercising his Constitutional Guarantee to defend his life and property by enviro-socialist regulations and laws, were lion attacks to multiply by an order of magnitude.
For the socialism impaired, that means mountain lion attacks became ten times more frequent.
Fact 3.
Only an armed citizenry can prevent predatory attacks. This is true for two legged predators as it is for four legged predators.
Fact 4.
Get together with the rest of you who don’t have secret dreams of being mountain lion scat and have the Open Space Park regs changed to allow OPEN CARRY!
Remember what the 100 year history of mountain lion attacks shows clearly and unambiguously - When Gunpowder Speaks, Beasts Obey!
It is only a matter of time before the Open Space Park regulation infringing the Colorado citizen’s right to open carry causes more pets to be killed, or (worse yet) a human to be mauled, killed, even eaten by a cat.
PS Open Carry does also tend to lower the number of rapes, robberies, even murders which occur in parks. ‘Nuff said.
Fact 5.
Get your concealed weapon permit. Your life IS worth the trouble and cost.
Fact 6.
Jennifer Churchill and the rest of the Colorado wildlife officers can’t, and won’t, protect you from predators. That IS your responsibility.
Fact 7.
Attempts to analogize traffic fatalities with being dragged down, slowly killed, and eaten, by a cat borders on sociopathy.
We choose to drive, and can exercise our skills to arrive alive.
The socialism impaired used large bodied predators to justify socializing vast areas of America and they didn’t give a damn about their having deliberately taken away their victim’s Constitutional Guarantee to defend against such predators in the only way a human can so do; with a firearm.
To listen to one such ‘crat (cat bureaucrat), go to www.EvergladesInstitute.org and look up the video of the Panther Project ‘leader’.
Lil’ Debbie looked right into the camera and told the owner of a campground where the agencies cat killed dozens of cats, 14 goats, and some emu and other birds - “Panthers are an asset to this campground”.
Yes, she does have a degree, she did say that, it was a demented statement, hence “academented”.
No, I didn’t pay her to say that - she did it on her own.
Final Chilling Fact.
Dr. Paul Beier, a lead cat biologist, told the NY Times that “every now and again, they are going to eat one of us. I’m comfortable with that.”
PS No such cats stalk the corridors of the university where he holds forth with such statements.
Such cats do stalk Colorado streets.
Comfortable with being eaten?
“Catch and Release is for trout not mountain lions!”
WINNER ! ! ! !
We have a WINNER! ! ! !
You see a bichon frise.
Kitty sees cotton candy with a crunchy center.
Several years ago the Washington Post printed photos of a cougar walking across the parking lot of AOL headquarters in the DC suburb of Reston, Virginia. This was not someone's escaped pet; the nearby Blue Ridge is full of them. They are eating deer, which is a good thing. You can hear them scream at night in the DC suburb of Howard County, MD, near the Patuxent State Park. There's nothing like it; it's unmistakable.
Because its a predator animal that has lost fear of humans
Its only 10months old.
If youre going to live an area with wild animals as neighbors, you have to be smart about it or move.
Respectfully, age of a predator that shows no fear of man matters not one d*mn bit.
Had the owner been armed, her dog might have been saved by her exercise of her Second Amendment Right, aided by the well practiced Boulder area vets.
They have lots of practice sewing up cougar bait, as one whacked out animal rights whacko said of Anthony Kocar’s dog.
