President Obama signed a law early in his administration to raise taxes from 39 cents to $1.01 per pack of cigarettes and from 19.5 cents to 50 cents per pound for chewing tobacco.

I like Rush a lot but he's flat out wrong here. that's OK, I still like him, even when he's wrong.
Rush is NOT wrong.
It’s about TAXING.
He’s an ADULT who smokes CIGARS.
I don’t believe that I have to explain this to a CONSERVATIVE.
Anti-tobacco zealots like yourself keep more people smoking than you get to quit. I guarantee you at least one person in this thread is going to stick with it just because of your annoying anti-smoking posts on this site. And that is sad.
It’s not “fashionable” to mock children’s issues; however, it’s more than appropriate to point out how the Dems advance their agenda by their “it’s for the children” tactics.
Ever watch the movie “Good Fellas”? Based on the true life of a mobster who got his start stealing tobacco products out of the delivery trucks and selling them at a reduced cost to those who wanted them. They had the driver stop at a certain place then raided the truck and sold the goods right out the back of the truck. The driver got a cut and they kept the rest.
Now I chew a bit..not much just a little. If I come across a black market operation I WILL buy from them. That way I can pay less than I do now and will avoid giving that California feel good tax to the Mob in Washington DC. that rules over you and me.
In simple terms. I HATE people who think they can tell me and the rest of us how to live our lives..either good or bad. It aint NONE of your business if I want to chew or drink.
As far as kids smoking..what ever happened to the age limit? Minors are not allowed to buy such products are they? So that shoots your little arguement right square in the butt doesnt it? They still get it dont they? So now you believe that the all mighty federal national socialist government should tell you what to do and when to do it dont you? Where are the parents? Oh! Thats right! The kids are in the public school of propaganda learning to live off the rest of us since their parents are to GD lazy to raise their kids. So lets give the George Goebels public schools of propaganda more money and let them raise the kids...I.E. Hitler Youth programs.
Got it?
“rollies”
Their parents should stop them.
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, Born CONSERVATIVE!
Oh, I see you really are a CONSERVATIVE! :-)
Do you have to trash someone else to make yourself feel better?!
He should have added teenage smoking to his list. But here on FR, smoking is celebrated and those who support teenagers are mocked as liberals. Sorry I don't buy it.
Cigarettes were 65 cents a pack when I started smoking, but that is neither here or there. I didn’t start smoking a pack a day. I started smoking a couple of cigs a month and it took about 5 years before I was even smoking a half a pack a day.
I didn’t start buying cigs by the pack from the store. I got them from older friends who had afterschool jobs and/or big allowences from their rich parents. I got them from my brother who knicked a few every now and then from my dad’s cigs.
Putting on a tax that raises the price of cigs might make a few adults quit, but I don’t see how it will stop any teenager that started smoking like I did.
Feel better about what?
The List, ping
Over 100 studies have been done showing that a price increase in cigarettes reduces demand. Particularly in children. What makes you think Econ 101 doesn’t apply?
BS. I can and do support the reduction of teenage smoking. But “Every conservative,” should oppose a 300% tax increase regardless of the target. And no, I don’t smoke.
I guess you didn’t mean to trash an overweight person to make yourself feel better? That’s why you posted that picture.
If you don’t have a better argument than that you probably don’t have one at all.
Please update me on the list ping thing, all i wanna do is smoke a cig and drink a beer and not have to get taxed for it.
