This was strictly an Indiana protest against taxes held in the north end of the rotunda at the Indiana statehouse. This was an excellent warmup to the nation wide April 15 teaparty. Some of the topics discussed were Increasing Debt: Mortgaging Our Childrens Future, The Colts, Pacers and the Capital Improvement Board, Run over by the Speedway Redevelopment Commission, Lobbying and Ethics Reform, Transparency and Accountability in Government, Pay to Play Politics, Indiana Style, and Fun and Games in Evansville.
The protest started at 1130 and lasted for about an hour and a half. It was civil in the Hoosier tradition but very vocal. I spoke with a State Trooper and he estimated the crowd at between 250 - 300 people. Here's a few pic's of the highlights:
My 2 favorite guys at the protest. The fella on the right is a Navy Vet. and gave me a full history of this flag:
This gentleman was there to bring awareness to Alex Jones' website infowars.com. He's a local landscaper and has done fine work in my area:
On April 15th we will write a $1300 check to this state for taxes, along with $700 to the Feds.. Apparently our local taxes tripled last year. If we are considered rich - we're in big trouble!!! I'm freakin sick and tired of what our country has come to. We're trying everything we can to make our voices heard by peaceful protests and what do we get, 0bama on Letterman making fun of handicapped persons, 0bama on 60 minutes "punch drunk" or as I suspect punch high, laughing it up over our economy. What the hell is wrong with this picture? We'll go the national teaparty held in Indy on April 15th. After that if things don't get better, God help us because I don't think I'm the only one that's had enough of this freakin socialist/0bama BS!
“1500,000 miles”
My goodness. Time to buy a Honda. :)
Wonderful!!!
Why have the MSM apparently imposed a news blackout on the tea party protests? I have not heard one word about the tea parties in the MSM. It’s as if they aren’t going on. Are they ignoring inconvenient truths, such as the fact that there is significant opposition to Obama out there?
I thought we’re supposed to confront inconvenient truths, but I guess that only applies to liberal causes or if you have the gravitas of an Al Gore.
Holy cow! It better last that long at the rate my money is going to local, state and Fed. government. Should read 150,000.
53% of the voting population voted for socialism. That so many are surprised that we are getting the socialism promised is a bit confusing.
I share your angst but am at a loss as to the solution, other than a huge amount of civics, history and economic education.
The problem is that the needed education will not be provided in the schools we are all paying too much for.
It is up to all of us to provide the instruction at all possible opportunities
Sorry, I forgot to add that I noticed local news channels 8, 13 and Fox 59 at the protest. I’ll post links if they decide it makes the cut.
Our local GOP State Senator, Bruce Borders from Jasonville, stopped by each booth and talked with each person. He was the only legislator I saw walking around with ID on display.
Remember that not all of that 53% knew what they were voting for. They fall into that gray area in the middle; the uninformed, apathetic masses.
They followed a guy who read speeches really well and looked like a fresh change from Bush. In fact, many have said that the 2008 election was pure Bush-backlash.
So no, 53% did not vote for socialism.
You are correct! Total blackout. We got to get more people involved!!! Then....maybe...just maybe.....
Life in this country is different for the liberals than for the hard working folk.
Hey....I thought you knew that! :-)
I was looking for you but when we got there my wife had to pee, get a cup of coffee on the first floor, etc, etc. Once I got her satisfied the show had already started. Are you gonna make the one on April 15th?
I may. I just hope the legislation is still in session.
Very cool. Thanks for the update and pictures. I usually watch ch.8 news so I’ll be watching to see if this makes it on TV.
One solution would be to hold them in front of AIG execs homes.
Just saw it on Channel 8. They showed some of the In. lawmakers ducking and weaving. I’m calling Cowards!!!

From an email, FYI:
CHANNEL 8s COVERAGE by political reporter Jim Shella
http://www.wishtv.com/dpp/news/politics/Group_host_Revolt_at_the_Statehouse_20090325 .
The original Channel 8 report which aired at noon was scrubbed from the internet by 6pm on Wednesday, March 25th. Notice how there are two date stamps on the Channel 8 coverage? He came back from the event after laughing at us, calling us whack jobs all day and headed straight to the editing room to put together that hit piece against taxpayers.
Now, compare Shellas report to other unbiased coverage around Indiana, and if you agree Shellas coverage was malicious and biased, please forward this message to every email list you are on and dont let the media manipulate what people think of taxpayers who stand up for transparency and the rule of law!

Yesterday, an email list we saw suggested a boycott of WISH-TV advertisers like statewide grocer to the masses, Marsh Supermarkets who is also a big sponsor of the Indianapolis Pacers. You will recall from listening to several of the rally speakers, that taxpayers have a big problem brewing with a push to make taxpayers bailout the billionaire team owners of the Colts and Pacers.
Shellas television coverage gave no mention of the sports bailout.
