Tuberose is lauded and applauded by Turin and Sanchez in their book: Perfumes: The Guide. Many perfumes contain the ingredient now, so I guess nobody remembers the mortuary story.
Hi...if read any more on this Egyptian fragrance trail, I will definitely post.
Right now, well for quite awhile, I wear Chloe’s Narcisse (by Lagerfeld). I like Knowing as well!!!
Surprisingly, one of my favorite mass market fragrances was by Avon (and of course they discontinued it). They had a great fragrance called ‘Little Black Dress.’ It had great top notes. Of course they quit selling it. I always thought they realized what they had and sold it to a ‘better’ brand. Who knows?
LOL...on sending fragrance to your daughter while in France :)
Why can’t they just ask Helen Thomas?
This was found on the oldest stone of the oldest egyptian pyramid.
What does something that old smell like?
B.O. doesn’t count as perfume.
But anyway, hey, when someone plasters up her picture in here (I’m afraid to look), don’t come cryin’ to me. ;’)
Oooh, tell me more...
you can see different paintings of Egyptians wearing perfume cones over a span of thousands of years.Wow, their necks must have gotten sore.
I’d ask Al Franken, but he’s got no sense.
My view is, if women want to attract men with perfumes, they need to get food scents into the bottle.
According to all research, women wear perfume to please themselves, as a part of daily grooming rituals. If the guys like it, so much the better!
Of course, the ancients knew that a dab of Vanilla, Rosewater, or Orange Flower Water behind the ears worked wonders ;)
I imagine you realize I saw the documentary about she and Helena Rubenstein. I’m still thinking about it. What a pair of entrepeneurs.
I do think they’d latch right onto this Egyptian scent thing. What marketing we’d see.
Must’ve been interesting to work there in the period Arden was around.
A couple of the older aestheticians I worked with knew Miss Arden back in the day. They had a lot of interesting stories. I wish I had been able to spend more time with them.
The salon at the Biltmore shopping center had been one of the original Red Door salons. It had been sold to another company. When Red Door purchased it, they went to sand the door down to paint it red, and found the original red paint. Some of the original chairs and glamor photographs were still being used in the salon. A lot of older ladies used to come in to buy her Bluegrass cologne, one of the few holdovers from her regime. The cosmetics company is separate from the salon company, but the salon buys products from the cosmetics company under a purchase agreement.
The grounds of the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale were at one time her Maine Chance Spa. It was prime real estate.
I haven’t seen the documentary, I hope to see it someday.
I live right near that Phoenician! Have to get over there to check it out. Very gorgeous still, but oh whoa is it expensive to play golf there. 400.00 a game. keeps out the riff raff.
