100 Movies to see before you die.
Yahoo Movies ^ | 03/22/2009 | Yahoo! Movies Editorial Staff

Posted on 03/24/2009 1:12:46 AM PDT by iowamark

Many movies are good, some are great, but only a select few can be called truly "essential." After heated discussions, long negotiations, and a shouting match or two, the staff at Yahoo! Movies has put together this list of the 100 films you must see before you die.

To choose the titles for the list, we considered factors like historical importance and cultural impact. But we also selected films that we believe are the most thrilling, most dramatic, scariest, and funniest movies of all time. Some of these films you've seen, and some you may not have heard of, but we believe that each one is a timeless classic that you absolutely have to see.

12 Angry Men (1957) Directed By: Sidney Lumet Starring: Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, E. G. Marshall

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Directed By: Stanley Kubrick Starring: Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester

The 400 Blows (1959)Directed By: Francois Truffaut Starring: Jean-Pierre Leaud, Patrick Auffay Why You Should See It

The African Queen (1952) Directed By: John Huston Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Robert Morley

Add The Wild Bunch, Forbidden Planet and Gladiator. All I can think of right now.

Maybe they made the 25 DVD gift that Bambi gave to Brown.

“We Were Soldiers” should be on the list. If you haven’t seen it, see it.

The list is bunk without ‘Gladiator’.

"Blue Velvet" and no "Ben-Hur"? "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" but not "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" (a brilliant screenplay)? "Do the Right Thing" but no "Great Escape", "Arthur", "10"?

I'll take "Frequency" over "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love" over "Breathless". And WTF "Princess Mononoke" and no "Withnail and I"?

This list is crap! I defy the maker of this list to explain "Chinatown".

I think LA Confidential is one of the best films of the past thirty years. It’s on my list of films to re-view annually.

Feh. Any film list without The Lost Skeleton Of Cadavra on it is worthless. For those who wish to catch a glimpse of the brilliant and gripping sequel I bring you the trailers to The Lost Skeleton Returns Again. Don't watch if you're a heart patient.

Key Largo is a great movie, too. Love that one.

Key Largo is a good stage play excellently cast, well performed and competently filmed. Great cinema, however, it ain't. But that's just my opinion.

...they could have at least included “Frankenstein”

"Bride" is better.

Anyone with your screen name has no credibility to judge film.

Come on! Ossie Davis as JFK? What's not to love?

Actually I'd seen it the night before I was trying to come up with a screen name and it was the first thing that came to mind.

Well, I’m a big Edward G fan, so I love it. What’s this “cinema” you speak of? You mean movies?
