Vanity: Questions for FR protocol;
Posted on 03/23/2009 12:49:30 PM PDT by shotdog
I'm new and I have several questions regarding procedure. Is it allowed to email excerpted articles posted here? If so, how do I do it? What is the meaning of "ping", "banglist" and "bump?" Mrs. Dog wants to know, too. Thanks.

I said in post #17 that Kitties do not like (blogs)
Your post dramatically drives home that point.

I always thought “ping” was a reference to the archaic days of DOS. When you were trying to link two computers together back in the day, you “pinged” them to see if they were receiving the signal. And this term was itself a reference to the military term used in sonar communications between subs.
So when you “ping” someone on FR, you are essentially saying “did you get that signal?”

The Scots and the Irish are separated only by the Irish Sea. Single malt is single malt. The difference lies in the treatment of the malt. Either way, they’re the nectar of the gods. And I concede that Irish beer is three orders of magnitude better that that of Scotland. We could take a page from all the folks across the pond.

Um. Yeah. Geithner might take umbrage, though. Seriously, I can’t believe how fast our country is tanking. Obama is taking the country over the cliff, and the front wheels are already treading air.

I’d like to know, though, how the Scots could come up with Single Malt but also Haggis.
Enquiring minds and all that.
