Southerners looking to share their Confederate holiday
Hartford Courant ^ | March 22, 2009 | Dahleen Glanton

ATLANTA — In a cultural war that has pitted Old South against new, defenders of the Confederate legacy have opened a fresh front in their campaign to polish an image tarnished, they said, by people who do not respect Southern values.

With the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States in 2011, efforts are under way in statehouses, small towns and counties across the South to push for proclamations or legislation promoting Confederate history.

The tales told about Lee and Jackson are more exaggerated than anything told about Lincoln.

Embellishments of the exploits of men such as Lee and Jackson are inevitable, however, much history has been written about both men by credible historians, so the facts are out there.

On the other hand, the history of Lincoln has been purposely revised by you libtard yankees to continue your war of propaganda that you began 170+ years ago.

I wouldn't expect that. You're too busy worshiping at the altar of your Southron gods.

You got it wrong, bluebelly.

Heathen yankees worship their mortal idols, e.g. Lincoln, Obama, etc.

Us Rebs have respect and admiration for leaders that earn it (such as Lee and Jackson) but we save our worship for the Lord.

Rather odd, I would say.

Like Watership Down?

Or Through the Animals Eyes: A Story of the First Christmas?

Interesting that you find revised history about Lincoln and the WBTS as normal but creative literary works as 'odd'.

The difference between you and me is that I can tell fiction from fact.

Unbelievable! You took time out from your Lincoln/Obama worship to post that tripe.

We live in perilous times now and I hope we can come together as Americans and face the threat that is going to destroy us from within./Just Asking - seoul62......

I'll let you know depending on how you answer this question: Do you believe that the union should remain intact regardless of the cost even if the price is freedom?

Exaggerations are not. Tales like Lee advocated an end to slavery or myths like Jackson taught slaves to read are meant to change the perceptions on both men and divorce them from slavery. Nothing could be further from the truth.

On the other hand, the history of Lincoln has been purposely revised by you libtard yankees to continue your war of propaganda that you began 170+ years ago.

There is no doubt that the number of myths built up about Lincoln is considerable, on both sides of the equation.

Heathen yankees worship their mortal idols, e.g. Lincoln, Obama, etc.

You keep telling yourself that. The rest of us know better.

A bit.

'Creative literary works' would pretty much sum up the Southron history of the rebellion.

Unbelievable! You took time out from your Lincoln/Obama worship to post that tripe.

Once again we see that when Southron fanatics have nothing to offer to support their claims, they try and label their opponents 'liberals'. Used to be "Lincoln/Clinton" worship. Now it's "Lincoln/Obama".

Simply amazing. You really do live in a world of your own intracranial construct in which Lincoln was the great emancipator, Grant was a man of temperance, Sherman was a man of honor and Obama is a messiah.

You need a lot of really serious couch time, dude.

The rest of us know better.

You certainly can't prove that after this last election....................

And statist propaganda works would pretty much sum up the yankee history of The War of Northern Aggression.

Now it's "Lincoln/Obama".

A much better fit, don't you think?

They're both so much alike that it stands to reason that those like you that worship Lincoln are spellbound bots of Obonga.

IMHO, The "south" (very vague but I have a job and a life unlike some other thread hogs) will not go down a collective socialist toilet without some kind of serious separatist movement. I could be wrong but their is something just below the surface that should have every top down government federal bootlicker, conservative or socialist, very worried. The only way to restore the Jeffersonian republic would be by drastic means, if you don't understand what I mean, take some time and read through this thread, from the beginning. It's not "all about slavery".

I am hopeful. If I can be married happily, although with political disagreements to a LIBERAL for seven years going on eight, then there is hope for us all./Just Asking - seoul62......

Not really sure of the last one, to each their own messiah. But I'm also sure that Lee's opposition to slavery was tepid at best and that Jackson didn't teach slaves how to read.

Hubby is nine years younger, there is also a generational difference in music: on my favorites: Freebird and Ramblin Man, to which he replies: What is that? He is into Morrissey, Midnight Oil, Greenday and Coldplay./Just Asking - seoul62.......

I would like your opinion on another issue

A person is not committing sedition or treason if they openly petition their duly elected local state governmental body to secede, or is this behavior not constitutionally protected and is also sedition, that person is committing a punishable crime.

Please choose one of the following as your answer,

  1. the person is within his/her rights to do so or
  2. the person is guilty of sedition, not protected under the first and 10th amendment and has committed a crime.

Clintoon was in many ways, an old school southern Dem of the backslapping Jim Folsom variety (as opposed to the angry Theodore Bilbo variety). Reminded me of Lonesome Rhodes in "A Face in the Crowd."

Obama, on the other hand, is an out and out Eurosocialist, despite his dad's genetic contribution.
