Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 is done and beta 4 is slated to be released on April 14.
Thats the latest from the Mozilla Firefox team, which held its weekly meeting on Tuesday.
Q&A is expected to sign off on the long delayed beta 3 on Thursday and the beta 3 web page should be up and running tonight, a key Mozilla Firefox developer said.
As expected, the team last week upgraded the code version number to Firefox 3.5. The new naming with appear when beta 4 makes its debut.
The code freeze for beta 4 is planned for April 6, but some developers were a bit skeptical that the current number of remaining bugs 94 in all can be whittled down to fewer than 10 in three weeks.
~~snip~~
Firefox 3.5 formerly known as Firefox 3.1 was originally expected to be available in early January but the team opted to add key new features such as private browsing and Tracemonkey. The decision pushed back the release from the originally planned date.

*sigh* - Why the discongruity?
My default browser just gets better..... President Gates are you listening?!?!
I’ve never understood how they number them, running “Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5” now.
As a long time Firefox user I lament I cannot use Firefox 3 on my system as it causes blue screen of death type fatal errors. Even a total wipe of the hard drive and a fresh reinstall of Windows XP failed to fix the problem. I’m currently using Safari... nice but not Firefox.
“My default browser just gets better”
It keeps on crashing for me. Regretably I must use IE most of the time.
Will they EVER fix the freaking memory leak?
I use the drop-down list as a source of all of my favorite websites that I visit on a regular basis (about 30 or so). If I need to search the web I will use the Google search bar on the upper right of the browser--but my drop-down list has only "x"-number of websites, which I have chosen & can add to when or if I find another favorite to visit regularly.
Firefox 2 (TWO) has it exactly like I want it, but for some reason, I noticed that Firefox 3 has all sorts of websites in the drop-down list that I have visited (up to 14 I believe & no more) & several of them aren't even my favorites! They just happen to be sites that I may have either StumbleUpon'd or visited & I have no idea how they got there...& worse yet, I am unable to clear them out of the drop-down list, even when I go into Tools ---> Options ---> Privacy ---> Always Clear My Private Data !
I don't want my drop-down list to show the 1st 14 sites that I have visited. I want to use it ONLY as a list that I make up myself so I can get to my favorites quickly, & nothing more. That's why I went back to Firefox 2 & am hesitant to re-download Firefox 3 until it lets me do what I want it to do.
If anyone on this thread could tell me where I'm going wrong, I would sincerely appreciate it if you could help me. Thanx in advance!
Haven’t tried FF-3 yet. But for FF-2: Display the drop-down menu, highlight which URL you want to be rid of (don’t click, just highlight), then “delete” and POOF! Gone!
Anyone know if it works in FF-3??
Firefox is the best!
http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2009/03/next-firefox-version-bumped-to-35-another-beta-to-come/
According to todays Firefox meeting notes, the version bump aims to reflect more accurately the many changes introduced since the release of Firefox 3.0, the latest major release, last summer. These includes several changes to tabbed browsing, significant improvements to web standards compatibility, a deeply enhanced JavaScript engines, and several new privacy related including an all new private mode that allows users to clear all their browsing activities at the end of a session.
Yep, that’s what I’ve been doing on FF 2....but I don’t want to re-download FF 3 ‘cuz I’m not sure if it will work that way. Besides, on FF 3 I have been able to get only 14 sites on my drop-down list, while on FF 2 the # was unlimited.
I would also hate to re-download FF 3 & then find out that FF 2 is unable to download again, & is kaput.
Ah, I see.
Thanks.

What about the “CPU leak”? You know where it eats up a huge chunk of CPU.
I use Chrome and love it. Never an issue!!
Maybe the number of sites is controlled by the "about:config" command.
As far as clearing the location bar in Firefox 2 or 3, try the knowledge base:

More specifically: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clearing+Location+bar+history#Clearing_a_single_item_from_the_Location_bar_history
For those with IE problems there are an assortment of IE plug ins for the Firefox browser.
My wife used Firefox for years. Last week it automatically updated. Since then it crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but it still crashes. I emailed Mozilla but have received no help. Now she uses Explorer and bitches about how slow it is.
