The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

YET, you'd think Bristol just had an abortion.
I find it utterly amazing that freepers are advocating the radical, fascist stances that are on this thread. Its this moral absolutism that is killing this party. Why? Because we are HUMAN and we make MISTAKES! And part of being human, adult and GODLY is accepting responsibility for those mistakes, learning from them, and not repeating them. Yes, we all agree that a mother and father is the ideal situation. But for many- including many freepers, that just isn't reality. Yet, some here would punish the mother, father and family by advocating putting the baby with another family- without any evidence of lack of care, neglect, abuse, etc.
I am absolutely sickened. Its crap like this that makes me ashamed to be a freeper and a conservative.
..am still stuck on you were a Republican staffer in the House of Representatives?
If your teenage daughter had a baby, chose to remain unmarried yet keep the baby’s father in its life, and, after you telling her to put the baby up for adoption, decided she was going to be a mother to her child, would you disown her? Kick her out of your house? What would you do?
Uh, when did I say that?
Pretty much what your replies have been. You couldn’t see a cogent thought if someone beat you over the head with it.
It reminds me of the responses that Ann Coulter got on the Today show when she explained the glorification of single motherhood.
Let the Palins raise their little boy and life will go on...like it has for centuries. There is nothing new on this earth, just different ways of doing the same old things.
“And the Taliban comment, not too original.
Name calling is what the left does.
A poor excuse for a logical argument.”
LOOOOOOOOOLLLLL....hit home, eh? The left??? I haven’t found “The Right” in this thread. Aren’t there any Christians left on these forums. Christians don’t hate, they don’t judge and they love the little children.
Conservatives respect the right of privacy and individual liberties.
That’s a tough one. It would depend on the circumstances of the decision.
As I say, I don’t have anything bad to say about the way Sarah and Todd Palin handled this.
Wow, you really got me there!
But that is what you are implying. You said by bringing her children into the national spotlight, she brought this all on herself. You sound like the DUers who say her family is fair game because they went out in public. How sad for you.
What a stupid remark. The Palins are probably one of the most "complete families" in America, and that baby is Blessed to have them for a family. Just because Bristol made a bad decision doesn't mean that she doesn't love her baby. That baby needs to stay right where he is.

Ooo, I’ll answer!
I would explain to her that the most unselfish thing she could do for that baby is to give him/her a mom and dad who love each other so much that the love encompasses their family.
I would help her find a great adoption agency that would let her keep in contact with her child. Lots of them out there.
If she decided to keep the baby, I would know that I did all I could do and love them just the same.
How’s that?
Truth hurts, doesn’t it.
Part of responsibility includes admitting you made a mistake and don’t have the right to impose that mistake on the child.
If proper, committed adoptive parents were indeed available, would that situation not have been better, given that you grant that two parents are the ideal?
What do we say about the importance of committed marriage, then, aren’t we really saying it’s really just an optional, “archaic (as I think some put it)” ritual?
Ewwwww Philo....I take back all the nice stuff I said about you...you aren’t meanspirited...you are psychotic.
Not talking to you anymore...you are scarey like that nitwitmom or whatever her name is....sheesh...
nasty mouth to boot....CLICK
Thank you. How do you know that isn’t what happened with the Palins? The point is, *she* makes the decision and you stand with her and provide the love to the baby that a grandma should.
What is Tripp’s attitude towards the importance of marriage going to be, having been raised by a single mother?
These things matter; Sarah and Todd will NOT be Tripp’s parents, and Tripp will be acutely conscious of this.
