Unfortunately, the hell holes (big cities) are where most the jobs and opportunity are. My point is, some hell holes are much better than others in regards to crime.

Some of the Midwestern cities have some of the worst per capita crime.

As matter of fact, Vegas has higher per capita crime in 6 out of the 7 major crime categories than does LA.

I live far to the north of Vegas.

Thats why I asked if you lived in Neveada. I was comparing Nevada's major city to Cal's major city.

Oh, and Reno, your northern major city? It too has more crime per capita than does Los Angeles. As a matter of fact, it has more crime in 5 out of the 7 major crime categories than does Los Angeles.

Me too. Already a while back the State Dept. issued warnings against visiting Mexico. Even before that, I would not have gone there - too many kidnappings and other crimes.

I wonder what happened to case of the Canadian couple in one of the "safe" tourist spots who were found murdered in their upscale hotel.

It sure seems like some cities are clearly under martial law. They may not have declared it but when you put thousands of troops in a city it becaomes a little hard to claim otherwise.

You’re right about that - could be that the initial crawl said martial law for the country when in fact it applies more to some of the country’s northern cities.

The point of my first comment was to advise someone to not let his niece and her church group go to Mexico. It is very dangerous down there right now. Can we agree on that? I'm sorry I brought Los Angeles into the mix. Okay?

Yes but you made this statement too.

I wouldn't let anyone I love even go as far as Los Angeles.

I simply pointed out that Nevada's major cities of Reno and Las Vegas have substantially more crime per capita than does Los Angeles.

I have a soft spot for LAPD, that's all and I like to set the record straight.

And yes, Mexico is a very dangerous place...I'd rather juggle chain saws than be forced to travel there.

Maybe my line of demarcation was not far enough south. I was just trying to make a point. I have been to Los Angeles many times. I have only been to Las Vegas once.

And for the record Northern Nevada is a great place to live if you love the outdoors. We have our problems but most are caused by an influx of bad characters.

Mexico is far too dangerous right now. Not that I ever thought it very safe. You might bring that up to her.

Geez, I was born and raised in Texas, have many friends in Mexico, has anyone ever SEEN how the Mexican military operates?? Get a clue people, now don’t get me wrong, the good guys in the ranks are putting their lives on the line but some of their very officers are linked to the narco-thugs.

Our church cancelled their trip to Mexico this year. They went last year and it was OK but no more. Too bad.
