Brazil Church Excommunicates Mom, Doctors After Raped 9-Year-Old Has Abortion

RIO DE JANEIRO — A Roman Catholic archbishop says the abortion of twins carried by a 9-year-old girl who allegedly was raped by her stepfather means excommunication for the girl's mother and her doctors.

Despite the nature of the case, the church had to hold its line against abortion, Archbishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho said in an interview aired Thursday by Globo television.

"The law of God is higher than any human laws," he said. "When a human law — that is, a law enacted by human legislators — is against the law of God, that law has no value. The adults who approved, who carried out this abortion have incurred excommunication."

You seem quick with the insult, the one you directed your insult to has been nothing but polite.. Perhaps maybe YOUR hat is on too tight. In psych terms the name of that is transference. (on your part)

Perhaps if you didn’t start out responding in such a negative, almost attacking manner, you would understand.

Sure, whatever.

This is one of the rare cases where the procedure was needed. A 9 year old carrying twins? No way she'd likely survive it nor would the twins. The guilt in this case goes solely to the father of the twins and GOD will in time deal with him. The doctors? It would take Solomon to make such a choice. On this I would have to go with their educated judgment on the matter. I'm very pro-life but I believe the right choice was made due to age of the mother and the fact of a twins. The mothers possible or in this case likley death had she carried them may have been a horror no child should have to endure.

There's plenty of persons the churches {all of them in the Christian faith} need to be tossing out their doors but refuse to do so due to family names. They create the conditions for the perps to abide and thrive in without fear of retribution while on this earth.

If you cannot see the link between the mother and the unborn, you are truly a zealot without a thinking cap. And are probably one of only 2-3 that cannot figure out what is being said...no one should have to draw you a picture. surartcr stated very clearly what he/she thought and feels about this sad situation.

Sorry, but I don't see it this way at all. Stuartcr was not clear. This is why I was asking him to clarify his statement and what he was getting at which he admitted was nothing at all.

Also, you stated I said ”the child is also innocent, but so what”...Where did I say this? If you are going to accuse me of saying something, please quote me correctly.

As far as I know, that’s true as far as it goes, but on some thread in the recent past (less than two years ago ...) someone here explained how it’s more complicated than that, and that the hormonal shifts of puberty are marked by certain body-fat percentages, but not caused by it per se. I don’t remember who it was, unfortunately.

That’s what I want to know. I was thinking, “My goodness! What are they feeding these kids that they can start menstruating at 8?” Then someobody posted that she weighs 80 lbs.. I have no idea what is going on. At 80 lbs., how does one get pregnant - even at 19 or 29?

At the risk of being labeled a Tin Foil kook I think there is an explanation. Growth hormones being fed to animals in our food chain. It's in chicken, beef, pork, and dairy products. I'm not anti-science but blast it I wish they would leave food alone. I remember how good things used to actually taste before science began altering everything we eat from milk to grapes.

In post 75 in answer to stuartcr I quote” yes its a fact, but so what” Stuartcr has make several posts to the fact that both the pregnant child and the unborn were innocent. Your opinion was as I stated above. Its a fact, but so what..

He might just as well ex-communicate the little girl too.

Of course the step father is still in good standing with the church? That’s nice.

You have the context wrong. Reread the conversation back and forth between myself and stuartcr. The context of the discussion was about the apparent link, made by stuartcr, that was being inferred between innocents killed in wars and innocents killed in the womb. This is why I said "Where is the war in the womb?"

This child was too small to carry twins to anywhere near term. Attempting to do so would threaten her life, in addition to making her life a living hell if, and for as long as she survived. The most likely outcome if the pregnancy had been allowed to continue was an emergency abortion when the pregnancy was further along, with the little girl already suffering serious complications, or the premature stillbirth of the babies after they died in utero. Forcing a 9 year old girl to die in childbirth is not an option in the civilized world.

Like I said, It’s not an arguement, more like a factual observation. I’m not trying to point anything out, other than, in a lot of cases, there are different ways to see the same thing.

"I’m as pro-life as you can get, but can a 9-yo safely carry twins to term?"

Same here, this is one of those situations that there is just no way to daylight. If the 9 year old Mom is in danger if she goes through with the birth how can you balance that against the life of the babies. All of them are children. And that poor 9 year old was definitely not at fault!

And the church excommunicating the Mom and the Doc I understand (I know its hard to take but if you are going to be agaisnt Abortion you gotta go all the way.) but did the church excommunicate the scumdog stepfather?
