What Could Happen: The Collapse of Big Cities, Big Governments and Subsidies
Whiskey & Gunpowder | 2-27-09 | John Stott

I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I am worried about a lot of things. I just have to imagine what the chain reaction of the current downhill slide of the world’s economies can bring. Here’s what I imagine can happen in years to come:

Pensions will go bankrupt or be a shadow of what they were before, causing millions of retirees to be broke and maybe even hungry, with no recourse. Stocks and gold will probably cross at about 3,000. Robberies of banks and citizens will increase many fold, and make the streets of big cities dangerous. The danger will cause movie theatres, night clubs and restaurants to do poor business because of citizen fears of venturing out at night. Cars not in garages or in some way protected, will be subject to theft, break ins or stolen tires and parts, especially in big cities.

------------

The big cities, with their large numbers of out of work minorities, will become extremely dangerous places to live, and there will be an exodus to safer, small towns, by those who are able, even if it means selling a big city home at a sacrifice price, just to be safe. The infrastructure and utility providers in big cities may become insolvent or fraught with vandalism. Out of work minorities won’t be able to pay utility bills. Without electricity, gas, or water, even for a short time, life can be extremely difficult, and especially in a high-rise building or multi-storey apartment.

I placed an order the other day for long term storage canned garden seeds. They sent me the following email:

Additional “Must Have” Items

The following are some items that are both easier and more economical for you to acquire yourself. Amounts are listed per person per year.

Store 30 lbs. of SUGAR or HONEY for each adult. Sugar is heavy and shipping costs are more than it’s worth. Buy sugar at any local grocery store. Sugar is self-storing and generally does not spoil.

Store about 100-200 lbs. of whole WHEAT in buckets per adult. Hard white or red winter wheat makes the best flour for bread. Avoid storing flour due to rancidity and infestation. Wheat, like sugar, is heavy to ship; but if you can’t find it locally, please call us before your order ships. Shipping costs when shipped with a food supply order are minimal.

Store 2 gallons of COOKING OIL- the same brand and the same size bottles that you are accustomed to using. Unopened cooking oil has about a 2 year shelf life.

Store 10 lbs. of SALT and SEASONINGS in accord with your personal preferences. These are also self-storing.
Store 6 lbs. of RAISING INGREDIENTS-baking powder 2 lbs., baking soda 2 lbs., and dry yeast 2 lbs. Replace these according to expiration dates.

We’re extremely pleased to have participated in your preparation program. The more of us that are self-sufficient the better off we’ll all be. You will find this storage program is the very best food available for the very least expenditure of resources.

It’s my understanding that historically, crime has gone down during recessions.

No, it's just done by the government instead of individuals. They have more guns.

Trailer people are notorious for using Meth. If you keep the Meth pipe warm for them with Meth, you will be doing them and yourself a favor. I suppose a joke isn't funny if you have to explain it.

Thanks. Really, no joke is funny if you have to explain it, even dirty ones.

However, it is interesting.

Thank you, that’s very humbling. I’d be proud to have you as a neighbor.

I think we each will have to handle things the best for where we live, if in town, cities or rural. I’ver read the prophecies and saw Gerald Celente’s prediction, so at the least we must prepare at least 30 days of non perishable food, toiletries like toilet paper, shampoo, toothpaste etc...and batteries for all flashlights, emergency radios (which 1-800-NEWSMAX is giving away for Shipping and Handling),in case of an emergency that comes without warning like 9/11 did. Grocery stores get empty when a blizzard is coming, or a crisis hits...and it takes a few weeks to get things back to normal.

There are all kinds of things if you don’t live rural, such as nonfat dried milk, dried eggs, canned meats, and oatmeal, rice, and peanut butter(buy, keep and use bay leaves in flours, etc to prevent bugs once open)...just be sure to rotate the dates in your closet keeping those closest expiration dates to front and use them first.

In this administration we never know what will happen. Have you read David Wilkerson’s (christian minister) prediction? It’s an Urgent Message dated March 7, 1009 (new) at his website:
http://www.worldchallenge.org
It’s very similar to the Gerald Celente (secular) prediction.

It would be wise to make a list of what you would need, and within next few weeks absorb them into your regular shopping trips. I don’t know what area you live in, but we have an ALDI’S GROCERY, which is discount, and there are Sam’s, and Cosco’s in most places. Just remember to think NON-PERISHABLE in case of a loss of electric. Be sure to have a non electric can opener for the canned goods.
Thanks again, and remember that everything is temporary including recession, depressions and war.

Has Wilkerson had a good track record?

As far as I know, however there was a prophecy circulating the internet attributed to him that was embellished and changed by someone else, and I know that because I wrote to them and they told me....which I suspected due to it not having their actual internet address.
Now, he doesn’t say when that event may come, but he has written several books over the past 40 yrs....OR WHAT it actually is, however we had no warning on 9/11...it just was there on that day. It could be Anarchy outbreak, as they are planning riots in London around 4/1/09 during next G20 summit meeting (not the one going on now). OR it could be terrorism, or it could be a violent outbreak over something government does, or it could be a SETUP by government to take control...WHO KNOWS we live in different world now.
Wilkersons recommendation of 30 days food is great idea no matter what comes, just to get through this economic crisis, as it won’t be a loss...we can just keep rotating and use it up as we go....but if we don’t have it, that surprise may cause run on grocery stores, and we’ll do without for some time. So I just take the practical advice and use it, but the fact that even secular men are stating same thing is enlightening and makes it seem very real.

That may depend on how long you are going to store things. I never store flour or other grains for more than six months....in fact the prophecies I have read do not recommend needing more than 30 days of supplies.

I don’t recommend trying to store perishables like flour or grains for more than six months, unless you are a professional or expert. Here is a link to the best way for a few months, and the way I would do it:

http://www.ehow.com/how_4576607_store-flour.html

My plans do not include long term storage of perishables for several reasons, and that is electricity. Terrorism would be aimed at water, power and food supplies, if not blowing up things. One nuclear spray over the US and the electromagnetic field shuts down and it’s 1850 all over again. Also, carbs cause hunger, and my storage will include small canned meats like ham, turkey, tuna, chicken that last until at least 2012. Especially if I needed to take a backpack and get out of where I am. Some pasta and beans for the short term...yr or two. Dried milk, canned vegetables, chili or other canned goods that could be eaten cold if necessary. Protein and complex carbs are your best bet, because you will desire to eat less. Protein kills hunger and less food is needed. So by using the flour and other grains within first six months then you get to keep more of the longer term canned goods until the end, and that means less to store.
One other item is that you may not even get to stay with your house, so do you want to feed someone else? We can’t predict the future, or how it will go. It could be like Y2K and you are stuck with stuff or it goes bad....less is more.

This morning I read about an Argentina man who wrote down his warnings and experiences after their 2001 crash. I was terrified after reading this. My husband is reluctant to buy a gun... I’ve been wanting one for years. I’ll probably just have to save up on my own and throw down the gauntlet. My way or the highway, LOL. Seriously though, I am so troubled, I don’t want to live in fear, but the signs of the times look very bad.

Walton Feed sells flour and grains that are stored in a vacuum sealed, no oxygen bucket with a shelf life of 5-10 years. Also oxygen absorbers can be used with a food grade storage bucket.

I could be wrong but thats what I’ve been reading.

Does the freezer extend the life of batteries?

That's funny.

I keep my batteries in the freezer, but have no clue if it’s that great benefit, since that’s not in my line of expertise... My reason for keeping then there is so I can find them in a hurry, and if it has benefit I want it....as long as the freezer works.
