I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I am worried about a lot of things. I just have to imagine what the chain reaction of the current downhill slide of the world’s economies can bring. Here’s what I imagine can happen in years to come:
Pensions will go bankrupt or be a shadow of what they were before, causing millions of retirees to be broke and maybe even hungry, with no recourse. Stocks and gold will probably cross at about 3,000. Robberies of banks and citizens will increase many fold, and make the streets of big cities dangerous. The danger will cause movie theatres, night clubs and restaurants to do poor business because of citizen fears of venturing out at night. Cars not in garages or in some way protected, will be subject to theft, break ins or stolen tires and parts, especially in big cities.

The big cities, with their large numbers of out of work minorities, will become extremely dangerous places to live, and there will be an exodus to safer, small towns, by those who are able, even if it means selling a big city home at a sacrifice price, just to be safe. The infrastructure and utility providers in big cities may become insolvent or fraught with vandalism. Out of work minorities won’t be able to pay utility bills. Without electricity, gas, or water, even for a short time, life can be extremely difficult, and especially in a high-rise building or multi-storey apartment.

Sorry about that. The Woodlands is one of my fav places. I live on the other end - much closer to Mexico. If you are going to get a gun, better be doing it quick. My son tried to buy some extra ammo last week and was told it was on back order. An ill wind bodes! Good keep you and your family safe.

Credit is dangerous and should be used sparingly. None of those statements you made are wrong. However our society is very different than the 1950’s, and it is a personal decision now to do the right thing, and if we don’t everyone will suffer for it. “The rain falls on the just and unjust”.
No. You have to assume worst case if you are serious.
More people together of like mind will help, but injuries and death will reduce numbers. Neighborhood watches now can help to train you guys to work together. Learn to use radios to communicate. Analyze strong and weak points of the neighborhood. Have fallback plans in case people in bad areas need to get to anothers’ house. Generally don’t leave the strongest place.
If you’re not going to have a plan to leave, you have to plan for the extreme. It’s all you are going to have. ANd you will need a few others to help you because on-two people will not last against an armed group very long.
The idea you are talking about is going to work well for rural people who know each other and will by then be living in fortified homes and have already had relatives and others get there with goods and weapons and will be a little force of their own. Not nearly as well in the cities or suburbs. It’s more of an urban warfare issue. Too many ways to get to you in the city or suburbs. Not much distance and time before an attack.
MS-13? I’m afraid that’s coming to every big, and even not-so-big, town in the U.S., especially if Zero officially opens the borders. Lock and load.
Assume MS-13. Maybe they don’t know how to write the letters MS? Even the police are afraid of them - only police I ever see in Houston at night any more are on the Freeway - driving somewhere else - or at Luby’s having dinner!

Well......you are right of course. But to give up so much now to prepare for such an extreme (I don't at all mean impossible) future will require some more thought. This bad thing can happen in a lot of differnt ways, and a lot of other, unrelated bad things can, and do, happen.
And I'm guessing banks paid a better interest rate back before the easy money days of the Fed, "stimulative" rate cuts, etc.
Do you by chance know how to store flour?
This is a good discription of the process:
biggest issue is bugs, oxygenation, and moisture.
put it in the freezer for a few days to kill anything, then store it in an oxygen delpeted container that lets no sunlight in at a regulated temperature preferably slightly below room temperature.
Freezing kills living organisims, I dont believe it kills eggs.
You can use oxygen absorbing packets, or dry ice to remove the oxygen.
If you can get it into a big mylar bag, you can also throw in some diamitacious earth on the bottom of a bucket below the bag to absorb moisture in the container.
Bay leaves are known to help with bugs - they dont like them, so you can layer them in the flour. Its not a perfect solution though.
If you plan on rotating it rather than long term storage, store it in several smaller bags so you dont risk the entire load.
Though for me if you freeze it frist storge in a well sealed bucket I skip the Bay leaves.

Here are two that I know of.
You also might try getting them from loacal bakeries. They usually go through a bunch of them each week. You can generally get them for free or a small charge of a dollar or two and it beats paying shipping!
Thanks so much. I made many phone calls this morning and everyone uses bags. Honeyville Grains (which only has a $5.00) shipping charge sells buckets for 15.00. I understand that they are one of the best and sell their products to MANY bakeries all over.

Also don’t forget the mundane things that you take for granted evry day, like TP. There’s aready a move to outlaw two-ply TP! For me a closet full of TP is whorth a shoe box full of gold. Hard to wipe with a gold double eagle!
