Once a year I make a post to get to know the Newbies and find out about the oldbie Freepers.
This year with all the chaotic seriousness we are facing I thought to add one more question to my standard old ones.
They are simple questions yet complex.
1. Where did you come from? 2. How long have you been here? 3. What is it that keeps you coming back. 4. What is your Pet Peeve?
1. Came here from Usenet. Never went back.
2. Class of ‘98.
3. I need to make the withdrawal symptoms go away.
4. People who habitually use FR as a vehicle to advertise and promote commercial products.
1. Where did you come from?
I arrived here in 1998 (my freshman year of college) under a different handle — I’ve had several handles since then. Honestly, I don’t remember how I found the site. Maybe through Drudge/ Rush.
2. How long have you been here?
Going on 11 years, off and on.
3. What is it that keeps you coming back.
FR is among the best news gathering communities on the internet.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
(1) Chronic pessimism — conservatism is inherently an optimistic, bottom-up philsophy. If you can’t see the silver lining, you’re not paying enough attention.
(2) Excessive piousness.

My Pet Peeve: Misspelling Reagan as “Regan.” I’m sure Donald Regan was a great guy and all, but he’s not deserving of that much praise.
1. Where did you come from? Can’t remember.
2. How long have you been here? Late ‘99
3. What is it that keeps you coming back. The news and humor.
4. What is your Pet Peeve? FR stalkers.
If I tell you I have to kill you.
Too long....I’m foing....
Massive adrenaline dumps.
Posters jumping to conclusions.
Learned of FR during a demonstration on the steps of the state Capitol during the long wait for Gore to give up. Someone mentioned Free Republic and I came home and looked it up, been here ever since.
2. How long have you been here?
Since late 2000 or early 2001.
3. What is it that keeps you coming back.
A quick way to find out what the real news topics of the day are, the media thinks I need to know what's going on with Hollywood and Oprah.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
Used to change from day to day, but now it's the whole Obama administration, it'll probably remain that way until they are gone.
Don’t remember.

Some things even vultures won’t eat.
1. Where did you come from?
I stumbled across the site, probably while reading/surfing things about the Marine Corps. Cannot remember exactly how I found it.
2. How long have you been here?
Some short-term lurking prior, but official since September 30, 2005.
3. What is it that keeps you coming back?
A sense that I am not alone in the views on politics, global warming, personal responsibility, etc., etc. Also, it is a great site for just keeping up with the news.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
If the thread refers to a video, please give at least a brief written summary.
FReepers should make an effort to use proper spelling and grammar; we are being watched, mocked, and judged by the content of our posts. Likewise, FReepers should try to steer clear of fluffy stories about political figures, entertainers, etc., though I admit sometimes those are the most fun. FReepers who are extremely judgmental and to whom everything is black and white... allow a little space for humanity; much as we would like, life is not all neat and compartmentalized.
I LOVE FREE REPUBLIC, and thanks to JimRob and all of the FReepers who make it great.
My pet peeve is the Viking Kitties went away
1. Where did you come from? Not sure how I got here...
2. How long have you been here? Been here a little over 10 years...
3. What is it that keeps you coming back? Best conservative news site on the Intergore...
4. What is your Pet Peeve? People who do not think through something. Like Obama voters...
Drudge linked FR in the 90s. I lurked for two years before the event that prompted me to join.
I always thought it was funny when a poster (back in 1998) forgot to close his HTML because it would then remain in effect for the following posters on the thread.
