I anticipate a bunch of "funny" responses but I'm hoping fellow FReepers can shed light on whatever this is.

Do you have Ventrilo or Skype installed? There are some hacks floating around for both of those apps that will do things like that.

I’ve had some viruses but none of them were laughers.
To: KJC1
Seriously.
Did this “laughing” happen on your computer? This the first I’ve heard of such a thing.

"I anticipate a bunch of "funny" responses but I'm hoping fellow FReepers can shed light on whatever this is."I would if I knew what it was. I have never had a virus. I hope you are not infected. I sure don't want it.

Yeah, there's malware that causes all kinds of stuff to play through your speakers. Follow
this link, download the program, and install it. Update it once it's installed, and scan your computer. Should fix your malware problem.
The program is called Malwarebytes, and it's excellent.

Play something like Johnny Cash's “The Gospel Road” over and over until it disappears. (Shouldn't take more than the first play to do the job.)

Hey KJ!
You are not crazy! I have had that happen too, in the past. I had to change my filters on IE and aol. It was a cookie that kept playing the background once in a while.
I haven't had in since I got my new laptop in Nov.
If you are still using AOL, I think changing it on IE will do it. Clear the cache and delete the cookies.
If it comes back, keep a list of the sites you are visiting. Also, use spybot and malewarebyte. They are free :)

Might be a setting on your buddy list. The icons on AIM have sound effects.

Actually, may I offer this as advice...
Do you have kids? Could one (or more) of your offspring have AIM accounts? Do the lil darling(s) leave AIM open??? Some on their buddie lists (one of the 14,000 or so internet pals the average computer savvy kiddo has) may use the 'mahhhahahaha' as their 'alert/ping' sound.....soes, everytime one of the little dears gets a 'wassup' you get alerted.
