From NBC's Chuck Todd There's been plenty of speculation over the last few years that somehow Speaker Nancy Pelosi's personal views on key social issues, like guns, would cause political problems for, say, pro-gun Democrats who have been elected to Congress in the last two elections. Well, here's an example of why Pelosi is a much shrewder politician than she gets credit for and why she has more support inside her caucus, even among younger and newer members, than people around town realize.
Check out this exchange from Pelosi's press briefing today.
Q: "Madam Speaker, Attorney General Holder yesterday said that the Administration wants to reinstitute the assault weapons ban. Have you talked with Administration officials about that, and how quickly can you bring it to the floor?"
Speaker Pelosi: No, but I think on that score, one good place to start would be to enforce the laws that are on the books right now. And I think the evidence points this out, that the Bush Administration was not enforcing law. So let's start with enforcing the law that we have now."
That's right, Pelosi is using talking points which used to be standard NRA talking points regarding gun laws for years... "start with enforcing the law" on the books.

I smell fish.
Old fish, been around a long time. The Dems won on attacking Bush and they think they can turn this country into a Socialist State by attacking Bush.
Peeeelosi? yeh...she’s a good demo. I got the following and checked it out and yep.....it’s true according to Snopes, and Truth or Fiction......GOOD WOMAN....
No more Del Monte or Star-Kist for me....I’ll buy the knock off version and so should every one.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s home district includes San Francisco .
Star-Kist Tuna’s headquarters are in San Francisco, Pelosi’s home district.
Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to Pelosi.
Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the Samoan work force.
Paul Pelosi, Nancy’s husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist stock.
In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25, Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would not have to pay the higher wage. This would make Del Monte products less expensive than their competition’s.
Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark to the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an ‘economic development credit in American Samoa ‘.
Pelosi has called the Bush Administration “CORRUPT” ? ?
How do you spell “HYPOCRISY” ?
EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD GET THIS E-MAIL.
Why do we not get media coverage of stories like this
“SNOPES” VALIDATES
This is real simple. Democrats control the House because they gave up on gun control. They won’t go near gun control if they think it would cost them the House.
And it would.
And they know it.
apparently she isn’t as stupid as I thought she was
Not in NY....the pharmaceuticals and unions are running "thank Schumer and Gillebrand" ads non stop....Im seeing the same for a State senator....were in perpetual campaign mode now
“apparently she isnt as stupid as I thought she was”
Give her time.
I went to Snopes and I don’t get the feeling it supports your contention!
Yes, I think Dems realize they were losing footing quickly. They got the ABC/Washington Post to poll Detroit, LA & NYC to find out the public approved 0 and his stimulus package at 67% after a Rasmussen poll showing 37% the week before. I think they realize they could give Congress back in 2010 if thing got further out of hand. Look for constant attacks on Bush
“Old fish, been around a long time. The Dems won on attacking Bush and they think they can turn this country into a Socialist State by attacking Bush.”
George Bush is the new Emmanuel Goldstein.
I just got back from Las Vegas, and we saw the same type of ads thanking Harry Reid for the SCHIP program (childrens health care). It was exactly like a campaign ad.
Her comment was not about ideology, but politics. It's public acknowledgment that gun control is a political loser.
This is very good news, and recognition by a key gun hating Democrat that gun owners in the US today are more organized, determined and active than ever before.
Funny, because radical Libs are using that same analogy in reverse:

But Kackie Jura sees it differently:

Agreed. This is actually a little bit of a downer for me, since it means it's not going to be quite as easy as it used to be to get rid of the RATs. They are learning how to play hardball politics on a national scale in view of the Red States.
OTOH, it means it will take a combo of other issues to build the perfect storm. Take your pick: Fairness Doctrine, Freedom of Choice Act, quadrillion dollar debt levels, terrorism, etc.
Also, she'll change like lightning the moment she thinks the momentum shifts to the antigun view. It may take another Columbine and that is what HR 45 is for. They've got these things all ready to go to take advantage of a reeling nation demanding answers. Rage and grief go together like peas and carrots. Cooler heads must prevail in that scenario, so our side has to be ready with massive counter arguments to present to the people, not a traitorous Congress, waiting for spilled blood to ram through an agenda.
i agree guys.....but as usual we have a party - who is content sitting on thier hands being less than proactive about anything - we should be hammering this crap....and if the shoe was on another foot - the dems would be on the capitol steps daily
Did you see the Glenn Beck Show on Fox Nes last evening? Chuck Norris was talking about 2nd Amendment rights.
The NRA has been in sync with the likes of Pelosi for a long time. My RKBA money goes to GOA, which doesn’t pander to politicians who advocate “reasonable” gun control laws.
