This whole controversy over the tragic incident involving Travis the chimpanzee has restored my faith in my fellow Americans. My faith that they're really dumb, I mean. Democrat or Republican, rural or urban, Americans are ignorant of the most basic facts of their own existence.

Travis the chimpanzee was shot and killed by a police officer last week after it attacked a woman in Connecticut.

While there may be those around who wish to make me a “monkey”... I will disagree, no matter how much one wishes to throw around the “primate” word... LOL...
If this writer has a monkey for a wife, I’m very sorry for him....

And those objecting to it are still demanding what one termed "a front-page apology to the president of the United States who you have characterized as a primate" -- which Barack Obama most certainly is unless he arrived on a UFO. I demand to see his original birth certificate to prove that he didn't arrive on a UFO.

From the article:
“But we’ve all got apes in our family tree. A lot of us just don’t want to go out on a limb and admit it.”

This thread is absolute bananas.

*chuckle* A few years ago, a good friend of mine who happens to be an ardent agnostic (go figure) had surgery to remove a cyst from his tailbone and insisted that his slightly-elongated tailbone was proof that humans were descended from other primates.
I finally smirked and said, "Okay, you win. I accept the fact that your tailbone proves that you personally evolved from a monkey." The room was in tears.
Shalom.

It’s absolute bull. There has been no observation of one species morphing into another species. Darwin never heard of DNA.

I like your tag line. I find that on both the religious right and the secular left, emotion always trumps reason and logic. This article more or less makes the same argument.

Among all apes, the two closest in DNA are humans and chimpanzees.

The first definition for primate in my dictionary is “...an archbishop or bishop ranking first among the bishops of a province or country.”
Given this, I can truthfully say that I do not see myself as having been “descended from primates.”
In addition, the idea that “primates are wild animals, keeping them in our homes and our communities poses a serious threat to public safety and public health” seems to me to be quite sensible..........
