McDonald's shafts one of their own!
The Daily Change ^ | 2262009 | TDC

Nigel Haskett was working at a McDonalds in Arkansas last summer when he witnessed Perry Kennon, a criminal with a long record beating a woman. Mr. Haskett tackled Kennon, threw him out of the restaurant, and then stood by the door to prevent reentry. Kennon went to his vehicle, grabbed a gun and proceeded to shoot Nigel Haskett multiple times. Haskett staggered back into the McDonalds and collapsed. Haskett has had multiple surgeries and medical costs are at $300,000 and counting.

McDonald’s has denied workers compensation benefits to Mr. Haskett.

But the man who shot him wasn’t deterred by any number of existing laws. Keeping others, who DO obey the law from owning or carrying a firearm would not have prevented this. If restrictive firearm ownership laws were the answer then the problem would be solved. What law could we pass that would have kept this from happening?

We’re sorry the number you have dialed, 911, has been changed to an unlisted number.

911, nice after thought. If you were Nigel, I would like to see what your initial reaction would have been. A lot of people would have reacted exactly like Nigel did, others perhaps such as yourself, may have called 911.

Never bring a Big Mac to a gun fight. I have obligations to my own family first, a verrrrrrry distant second is everyone else. Who's going to support them when I get shot since I can't carry at work???

Agree 100%. That was exactly the impression I got from representatives of both sides on the news.

"Medicare and Medicaid, for instance, ROUTINELY deny claims if auto insurance, home owners insurance or work comp might be the “primary” insurance provider."

This needs to change. They need to determine who the primary benefiary is before denying anything.'

THis is just like SS denying all inital claims regardless of merit only to have 90% of the denials overturned. It creates a denial appeal bureacracy that serves no purpose and harms those who need the benefits.

“But the man who shot him wasn’t deterred by any number of existing laws.”

Of course. If you’re lawless enough to assault someone with a gun, you’re not going to be deterred by any gun control laws. Gun control laws only control law-abiding people. And the perp probably had felony convictions and couldn’t possess a gun in the first place. So let’s disarm the law-abiding.

I don’t blame the weapon, I blame the guy who used it. What’s going to happen to him?

One of the downsides to unlimited access to firearms.

There was no unlimited access to firearms here.Nigel Haskett did not have one when he needed it.

Best regards,

It took my mother over a year to get her SSDI and then it suddenly showed up with no notice or anything. She literaly found out about it when she went to apply for food stamps and they checked her bank accound and said she had almnost $19,000 in there. She got home and checked her account herself and sure enough it had showed up 4 days before.

Why boycott McD’s ? It appears that their insurance carrier made the call.

No good deed goes unpunished. The story doesn't mention it, but this was no random event. After a little digging:

That's because she couldn't. Police closed down the restaurant just after 5:30 Tuesday evening because of a shooting that started with a couple arguing in the parking lot.

"Apparently it's a domestic relationship. They have a child together. Right now were trying to determine a motive and what the argument was about," said Lt. Terry Hastings with Little Rock Police.

Ask any cop, you don't ever want to get in the middle of a domestic dispute.

So this woman chose to shack up with this thug and let him be her baby daddy, no damsel in distress here. Not worth getting killed over.

Here's the baby daddy:

Which is why ALL should avoid All major fast-food corporations, and instead go to LOCAL restaurants, not only are you helping your neighbor (and avoiding sending money to NY, or LA-wherever McD is located), keeping it local..in the community, but you’ll also have better service, and healthier food ;)!

I’m not, it’s the McD’s workman’s compensation company that’s at issue here...and WHY they would deny this....of course there may have been small print.

I doubt there was time for the police to get there before the woman was either dead or maimed...it was a courageous decision.
