JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The capital city's 61st homicide investigation centered on a man who was fatally shot while allegedly attempting to break into a vehicle. Officers responded to the scene just before nine o'clock Saturday night in an apartment complex in the 5700 block of County Cork Road off Briarwood Drive.

It is located behind the Magnolia Federal Credit Union. Jackson Police Department spokesman Lt. Jeffery Scott said 20 year old Brandon Lenard of Jackson died of a single shotgun wound.

Witnesses told police Lenard was breaking into an SUV at the complex when he was spotted by the owner. Residents told investigators Lenard was also seen attempting to steal a Cadillac before the shooting.

"You hate to see a young person lose his life in this manner, but those are the consequences when you take actions as such." said Lt. Scott. "But in this case last night the deceased was allegedly breaking into an SUV when the owner of the SUV came outside and caught him inside the vehicle." The unidentified vehicle owner was questioned and released.

Jackson, MS is more dangerous to live in than being on combat missions Iraq and Afghanistan (combined)...

It’s the same in Texas. Florida is overrun with NY/NJ types and the States’ laws reflect it.

If this 'young person' (read some kind of underprivileged yute) was doing what was alleged, then NO I don't mind he/she/it allegedly losing their life.

The unidentified vehicle owner was questioned and released.

Then its not a homicide.

I believe the correct term is "public service shooting."

Then its not a homicide.

and from reading other articles, it appears as though he was unarmed, running away and shot in the back.

In Florida you can shoot to prevent rape robbery and kidnapping.

Property crimes are a gray issue.

Then its not a homicide.

Yes it is. Homicide is properly defined as the act of a human killing another human. What we have here is justifiable homicide.

Florida seems rather unreasonable.

Different states have different laws.

only in danger of IMMINENT Death

It's a litte broader than that:

"you may stand your ground and meet force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others." (this is a paraphrase)

Which is patently false. The Florida Castle Law allows you to defend yourself with a firearm if someone intends you harm and you are not required to run away.

Then its not a homicide.

Yes it is. Homicide = human killing human. You mean its not murder. Think about the term justifiable homicide.

You hate to see a young person lose his life in this manner, but those are the consequences when you take actions as such.

Now the deceased Mr. Lenard enjoys the unique opportunity to serve as a lesson to others.

There is bad info here. Florida is a Castle Law State. If someone is intent on doing you harm, you can shoot them.
