The Arizona Game and Fish Department caught and collared a wild jaguar in Arizona for the first time, officials said Thursday. While a handful of the big cats have been photographed by automatic cameras in recent years, the satellite tracking collar will now help biologists learn more about this animal's range.
Meanwhile, a jaguar was spotted in central Mexico for the first time in a century. Scientists photographed the cat with an automatic camera set alongside a trail thought to be frequented by the spotted felines.
The male cat in Arizona was captured southwest of Tucson during a study aimed at monitoring habitat connectivity for mountain lions and black bears. The healthy beast weighed in at 118 pounds with a thick and solid build.
Jaguars are the only cats in North America that roar. They're considered the largest cats in the Western Hemisphere. Adults commonly weigh up to 211 pounds (96 kg), though 300-pounders have been reported

I know my Jags. Never owned a D as these are pretty rare. did have two E types, a 1961 150-S and a Mk VII. The ladies thought the Mark was a Rolls.
Tell that to all the relatives of people that have been killed by mountain lions....
World's most famous tigrero, Sasha Siemel who hunted them in the Amazon with spears, bows, and occasionally, a gun. Not bad for a Latvian guy.
Yes.
Some are quite large and very strong.
I thought jaguars were spotted all over.
‘These are not your mild-dispositioned pumas.’ Um, isn’t there a club called the Cheetah’ in Atlanta which specializes in ‘wild animals’ in skimpy dress? I doubt those are mild-dispositioned clinton PUMAs, either.
They are pretty rare because there was a factory fire that destroyed some of them, correct?
My uncle is a British car guy and used to have a Mark VII...that’s one big, beautiful car!
Whew! There’s a man’s man.
Maybe they’re just eating the Mojados that American big cats don’t want to eat.
I will take your word on it.......
: )
Thanks for the pics george. That is a beautiful animal.
They must be expanding their ranges from Mexico to the U.S.
George, did you read about the two cats spotted in Indiana? (www.outdoorpressroom.com). I would post the article but I am trying to resusitate my home computer (I’m on the laptop now). My computer has been crashing and I fear it is dead, along with a BUNCH of files I need and should have backed up but didn’t (GULP).
Some believe that PETA dumped the cat there.
Seeing one of those in the back yard would certainly scare the spit out of me! I have enough trouble dealing emotionally with the “mild mannered” cougar!
This is a real no-man's land, so I'm not surprised another was found. There may be more there than we know.
I hope that kitty’s collar has a bell on it!
That’s a beautiful animal, George. Hopefully there are others and they’ll stay away from man.
Thanks for the ping.
Death in the Silent Places was a great book.
