Rare Jaguars Spotted in Arizona and Mexico

The Arizona Game and Fish Department caught and collared a wild jaguar in Arizona for the first time, officials said Thursday. While a handful of the big cats have been photographed by automatic cameras in recent years, the satellite tracking collar will now help biologists learn more about this animal's range.

Meanwhile, a jaguar was spotted in central Mexico for the first time in a century. Scientists photographed the cat with an automatic camera set alongside a trail thought to be frequented by the spotted felines.

The male cat in Arizona was captured southwest of Tucson during a study aimed at monitoring habitat connectivity for mountain lions and black bears. The healthy beast weighed in at 118 pounds with a thick and solid build.

Jaguars are the only cats in North America that roar. They're considered the largest cats in the Western Hemisphere. Adults commonly weigh up to 211 pounds (96 kg), though 300-pounders have been reported

I know my Jags. Never owned a D as these are pretty rare. did have two E types, a 1961 150-S and a Mk VII. The ladies thought the Mark was a Rolls.

George, did you read about the two cats spotted in Indiana? (www.outdoorpressroom.com). I would post the article but I am trying to resusitate my home computer (I’m on the laptop now). My computer has been crashing and I fear it is dead, along with a BUNCH of files I need and should have backed up but didn’t (GULP).

The fire was at the Browns Lane factory in February 1957. The D type racers and the road-going D known as the XK-SS (without the dorsal fin) were mostly wiped out. The D had a 3.4 with three Webers.

I remember back in the late 90's a hunting guide captured a photo of a jaguar in the Peloncillo Mountains of southeast Arizona. I remember seeing the pics -- beautiful animal.

This is a real no-man's land, so I'm not surprised another was found. There may be more there than we know.
