Octomom Nadya Suleman is worried that the California hospital where she gave birth last month won't release her octuplets until she "has a better living arrangement," TV host "Dr. Phil" McGraw said.

McGraw said Suleman, 33, called him in a frenzy on Tuesday, telling him she fears that the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center where she gave birth on Jan. 26 will not release her kids until she proves she can take care of them.

"What she is telling me is that unless and until she has a better living arrangement, that they are not likely to release the children to her," McGraw told The Los Angeles Times.

IOW, this about her diseased imaginings rather than any actual facts.

I agree. This is a tough call. One way or another, it looks like responsible people will have to foot the bill. As usual.

I hear ya, a tough call to make. Maybe the State of California should file a lawsuit against the doopy doctor who performed the procedure on her. If you think about it, he certainly is mostly to blame for this whole situation as he certainly could have denied her request for such a procedure.

Hospitals will take children into protective custody with a court order when it is clear that releasing them without oversight by Child Protective Services will likely result in harm to the child(ren). The mother will have a hearing and the court will decide the disposition of the children or how much oversight with social services will be required.

This happens every day.

You state the problem nicely.

However, I think you answered it yourself: “Frankly, the idea that a hospital would confiscate children and tell their mother that she can’t have them seemes awfully Orwellian.”

Confiscation of children, without proof of harm, sets a HORRIBLE precident. Fastforward 10 years. Now picture parents being refused their children because they’re registered as republicans on the grounds that they MAY cause them harm. No proof, just a bureaucrat making a judgement.

Until there is evidence that the children are in danger, the children are hers. If the nanny state decides to support her, then your issue is with the government that encourages dependence, not the mother.

To be serious...I can see both sides of the issue.

But, having said that, as a nurse one sees a lot of inappropriate behavior exhibited by family members when they are visiting their relatives in the hospital. I am sure the nurses have serious concerns about this woman's stability. I can't see CPS really being able to monitor this woman sufficiently if and when she is able to take those babies home.

From things I have read it appears that her 6 children at home have suffered under her care. When octomom’s mother was telling a reporter that she was planning to move out, the oldest son begged grandma to take him with her.

Due process?
Are you kidding?
There is no true “due process” where Child Protective Services is involved.

From what I heard Att. Gloria Allread already offered her a house and she has not accepted it for whatever reason...

Because Octomom would have no control over the children. She couldn't use them as a meal ticket.

Allred, a celebrity attorney, had filed a petition with California’s child protection services to have the octuplets taken into state care. After she announced her action, Conforti called Allred to offer to join forces to set up a home for the family.

14 kids, no job, no prospects, living on welfare, feeding at the public trough the hospital is appropriately concerned for the welfare of those 8 kids. That doctor that performed the artificial insemination should be taken out and shot. He should have showed the same concern the hospital is now doing.

Don't forget the multiple plastic surgeries so she can resemble her obsession, Angelina Jolie.....wonder who paid for those?

Nah, just sued into pennilessness - and sentenced to 18 months of late night feedings of all 8 babies.

Ditto that! I never hear any thing about this "doctor". Everyone is focused on the mom. She is a nut but the doctor must be one also. California should sue him for everything he has.

I am sick of taxpayers being forced to pay for people’s kids especially someone who is unemployed and has the name Suleman which is from the Islamic world.

I admire your honesty. Not so much the rest of what goes on in your head, but your honesty gets a thumbs up from me.

If Suleman was named, say, McClain, this situation would be less troubling to you.

But in the first half of the last century, after 2 wars with Germany, Frantzie as a name would likely have engendered the same mistrust you hold for Suleman.
