Thanks, I’ll read them and try to get to the bottom of this.
...but it seems to me that multiple sources alleging differing theories about the same issue means that we’ll never be sure about the truth, short of irrefutable evidence, of course.
But thanks for forcing me to call into question that which I thought I knew. Having been raised Catholic it goes hand in hand with why I now refer to myself as an agnostic.
The lecture you linked to appears to be on vibrations in real (possibly macroscopic) strings and therefore is not directly related to the usual meaning of “string theory”.
You deserve a major ping! Those young Earth nutballs are, well....nutballs.
