Unless you have been living in a cave for the past month, then you must know that the most hated man in America is none other than Stephen Fowler of the ABC reality show, "Wife Swap." To get up to speed on Fowler's antic's, check out this video of some of the highlights from that show. Among the many "charming" utterances from this British-born San Francisco character are calling the wife from small town Missouri involved in the swap, Gayla Long, a "dumb redneck" and "lower class." In addition, his attitudes reflect a distinct leftwing anti-Americanism. Fowler finds it "humiliating" and "objectionable" to sing the national anthem. He also mocks Gayla Long because her sons want to someday join the military. And all this is just skimming the surface of Fowler's incredible rudeness which included telling his own kids to not even speak to Long.
All this caused a firestorm of reaction on the web including even a StephenFowlerSucks.com blog. However, despite the immediate notoriety of Fowler in the blogosphere, Fowler's hometown newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, neglected to publish a story about their most "distinguished" citizen for weeks. When an article was finally published, the Chronicle neglected to go into any real detail of Fowler's hideous behavior. Check out their highly abridged version of what happened written by Justin Berton and all you can figure out is that Fowler may have been just a bit impolite:

I'm reminded of this exchange from the movie "Blast from the Past"
Troy: | You know, I asked him about that. He said, good manners are just a way of showing other people we have respect for them. See, I didn't know that, I thought it was just a way of acting all superior. Oh and you know what else he told me? |
Eve: | What? |
Troy: | He thinks I'm a gentleman and you're a lady. |
Eve: | [disgusted] Well, consider the source! I don't even know what a lady is. |
Troy: | I know, I mean I thought a "gentleman" was somebody that owned horses. But it turns out, his short and simple definition of a lady or a gentleman is, someone who always tries to make sure the people around him or her are as comfortable as possible. |
Eve: | Where do you think he got all that information? |
Troy: | From the oddest place - his parents. I mean, I don't think I got that memo from mine. |
haha, she may be fat, but he’s got a completely empty character. She can lose weight, but he’s always going to be a pompous loser.
While I could do with $50k, our family is too boringly normal to be on tv.
I live in a cave precisely to avoid stuff like this. You would think people would get bored with garbage and demand something better.
She looked positively beaten down by her husband. Her head was hanging down and her shoulders were all slumped. She really looked like a battered wife.
Interesting. I had the same reaction. She may not be physically abused, but I can imagine Fowler capable of psychological abuse, which is just as evil. At his core, Fowler is full of self hate.
I hadn’t seen any of this until viewing the video. I’ll say one thing for Fowler, he’s more open about the limousine mindset than most libs. Prancing about the house with his long stemmed goblet in hand he fashions himself a part of the ruling intelligentsia who finds it offensive to even be in the presence of the rubes and hicks who make this country work. I’m afraid the other family exhibited much more restaint than I would have capable of in that situation.
I don’t believe he’s an aberration and that video perfectly summarizes the attitude of both sides involved in this war for our future.
So ... ummm ... What's the best way to get bat guano stains off of your shirt?
You have a shirt? All I got is this mammoth skin thong.
He reminds me of the San Franciscans in a South Park episode. They were so pretentious, arrogant, and self-righteous that they stood around sniffing their own farts and regaling at the odor. Vulgar, but amusingly similar to this Fowler character.
Well THANKS! I’d been happily munching away on popcorn in my cave until you posted this. So OF COURSE, I had to youtube it and watched enough to want to smack the poo out of the Brit and wish I could scrub the one episode from my brain.
They’re so educated and intelligent (the ones in CA) but they watch this CRAP?
He was a jerk, but she is obese (though he did not have to say it to her). She says she isn’t but she is. I mean other things that this idiot said was not true though.
If he is so superior and she is so stupid in his eyes, why did he marry her?
What were the rule changes and what was she trying to get him to do? This was a very one sided video? Was she a jerk too? I mean typically this show goes from friction at both homes. I have not seen this episode to give more opinion than he was a jerk.
It doesn't mean they have to act that way in ours.
If true, what a truly vile and loathsome person this must be. If true, why would someone who felt that way live in America?
“What type of person is so desperate for fame that he would even want be on one of these reality shows?”
Some people like adventures, some people like a breaks in the routine.
If someone is comfortable with themselves and their home and then are offered $50,000.00 for a week or two of filming in their home, then many people would see that as a hoot, and it gives them some great family video, and many of them learn something about themselves during that week.
It is OK to step out of the comfort zone occasionally, especially for 50 grand of free money.
i think a lot of us were in that cave...
