Republican governors support Obama
New York Times ^ | 02/17/09 | Jackie Calmes

WASHINGTON - President Obama must wish governors could vote in Congress: While just three of the 219 Republican lawmakers backed the $787 billion economic recovery plan that he is signing into law on Tuesday, that trifling total would have been several times greater if support among the 22 Republican state executives counted.

The contrast reflects the two faces of the Republican Party these days.

Leaderless after losing the White House, the party is mostly defined by its Congressional wing, which flaunted its anti-spending ideology in opposing the stimulus package. That militancy drew the mockery of late-night television comics, but the praise of conservative talk-show stars and the party faithful.

A somewhat misleading title. Governors want the bailout money because they're between a rock and a hard place. But, the way the Times spins it fits nicely into their biased political narrative.

*Warning* Charlie Crist is quoted in this piece - proceed with caution.

The intellectual dishonesty of these people. The pretzels they twist their minds and words in to fit their leftist world views. Never ends and never ceases to amaze me.

Charlie Crist - the person who gave us Juan McCain instead of Mitt Romney. Man I wish we had run Thompson-Romney or Romney-Palin.

Several Times greater???

The article list all of 4 governors who support it. All moderates in Rell, Douglas, Crist, and the Terminator. 4 out of 22 GOP governors. Or 7 out of 241 if you include the Congress.

Big deal.

I agree. I should have typed that. It was probably my first choice. Fred is no BS and is like your dad telling you not to do stupid stuff. A bit like Reagan with a southern drawl.

Obama is like a pot head kid who thinks Che Guevera and Mugabe are God.

Very misleading. They quoted my congresscritter, Cliff Stearns. He is a trustworthy conservative. Unless they throw him out with redistricting.
I called my state Senator’s office this morning. They assured me the state would have to pass laws to implement mandatory changes in the stimulus bill.

Yeah, if only the republican governors could have voted, bambi would have had 3 votes instead of four.

ARTCLE: "After an initial public show of being partners in a “Republican revolution,” the partnership all but dissolved when governors strongly objected as the more dogmatic conservatives in Congress tried to cut domestic programs and then shut down the federal government in an unsuccessful showdown with President Bill Clinton."

*****************

That was the turning point, we blinked. And it wasn't the governors, it was the presidential ambitions of BOB DOLE.

The current political/economic climate will likely give us another chance. Hopefully, this time, we won't cave.

The press and Demonrats look so desperately to find a Republican story in this when it is so clear they have failed to deflect the blame from where it will lie with Demonrats controlling everything. Just another story grasping at bringing Republicans in the discussion when they don’t want to discuss who is really behind the disaster, but it is obvious now and any complaints with gov’t can go where they truly belong.

It would be fiscally irresponsible for any governor to refuse the money. It belongs to the tax payers for one thing. Also the decision was not made at the state level, and the money is coming one way or the other.

As a conservative and a tax payer who has been against this from day one I am very dissapointed this has passed. HOWEVER, since the decision has already been made, knowing the money, if refused by a governor, is not going “credited” back but shared back around to other states on top of their initial take, I want it to go to my people. Furthermore if I am indeed lucky enough to have a conservative governor (and I do), I know the money has at least a shot at going to actual real projects that could benefit many instead of the select few the democrats will save it for.

So since the genie is not going back in the bottle, I want it where it can best be used. If a conservative Governor refuses it I would be disappointed, because I know that instead of the money going to a new road in an industrial district or improvements to infrastructure for all citizens, it will go back in the pot and picked up for some Five Star Hotel like half way house for Crack Whores in Detroit or some other worthless crap....

I'm thinking that Fred's wouldn't need Sarah's help to stay awake .. he's doing fine all on his own:
