I still play on my Dynasonic! Yesterday as a matter of fact.
I think Louis was the FIRST double bass drummer on the scene. Ginger Baker...ha!

I heard Louie play several times. On one occasion he was playing in a small club in Scottsdale. During a break I sat next to him at the bar and told him about a comment Buddy Rich made about him. I told Louie that I had been listening to Buddy at Basin Street West in San Francisco a few years earlier. Louie was playing that night across the street at the El Matador. After closing his first set with a blistering rendition of West Side Story, Buddy looked at the crowd and said: “You wait until a bit latter. Louie Bellson is going to come over and you are going to hear how these drums can REALLY sound.” For those who knew Buddy, that was the highest compliment he could give. Louie will be missed. What a wonderful man.
